Autscape Committee Meetings for 2009-2010

This year, the Autscape Management Committee will hold regular committee meetings. This is when they will be:

Odd numbered months (Sep, Nov, Jan, Mar, May, July): 3rd Sunday of the month at 3pm British time.
Even numbered months (Oct, Dec, Feb, Apr, June): 3rd Thursday of the month at 12:30pm British time.

That means the next (first for this year) meeting will be on Sunday, 20 September at 3pm. They tend to be about 1.5 hours, although later in the year they can run on to 2 hours. Never longer. You do not have to stay for the whole meeting, but repeated joining and leaving is disruptive and may result in being temporarily banned from the channel (until the break or the end of the meeting).

The committee is sorry if neither of these times ever work for some of you who might otherwise have liked to observe. They have a large and busy committee this year and this is the best they could manage. The possibility exists that this experiment will not work and they will have to go back to the rather laborious and unpredictable method of attempting to find suitable times on a month-by-month basis.

There will be announcements every month to the Autscape-announce mailing list (that is, the one that everyone who has come to Autscape is automatically on, unless they opt out) and possibly the Autscape-plan mailing list, if the subscribers don't completely overlap. The announcements will probably be automated so that they are reliable.

Please see the Autscape-announce mailing list message for details of how to access the meeting. Everybody is welcome to observe, but you will not be able to 'speak' while the meeting is in session.

If you have any questions or comments, this is a good time to make them.

Here is a reminder of when the Autscape committee meetings are and how to join them:

(1) WHEN ARE THE MEETINGS?

The meetings are now scheduled according to a pattern:

* In odd-numbered months, the 3rd Sunday at 3pm British time.
* In even-numbered months, the 3rd Thursday at 12:30pm British time.

For your convenience, here is a full list. All times are in the
British timezone. Central European time (Netherlands, Germany,
France, etc.) is one hour ahead of this.

All meetings take two hours at the most.

(2) HOW TO JOIN A MEETING?

Meeting are held online in IRC (Internet Relay Chat, a text-based
live conversation system).

Server: Starlink-IRC network <http://www.starlink-irc.org/>
Channel: #autscape.

Everyone is invited to join the channel and observe. Only committee
members will be able to talk while the meeting is in session, but
observers can talk before, after, and during the break.

Those experienced with IRC are encouraged to use their favourite IRC
programme (mIRC, XChat, etc.). Use it to connect to the
irc.starlink-irc.org server and join channel #autscape.

If you don't have experience with IRC, you can use a web-based chat
programme found here:

Visit that URL, enter a nickname, and you'll enter #autscape via
mibbit.com, a third-party webchat interface. Give it a few seconds to
join the channel.

Firefox user? Then install the Chatzilla add-on from
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/16
and then simply go to this address to join us:
irc://irc.starlink-irc.org/autscape

You might want to try this out, experiment and make sure it works,
before the meeting. Outside meeting hours, everyone can talk in the
channel. Please feel free to ask any committee member if you have any
questions or problems.
