schizoid personality disorder and obsessive interests.
No, but they are symptom of Asperger. Now, since there is no well defined neurology behind schizoid, it can be a result of shaddow form of Asperger. That is, if you are a very mild aspie, you don't have enough symptoms to be diagnosed with Asperger, and you will get schizoid diagnosis instead. In this case, yes you might have obsessions since they are part of Asperger and "in reality" you are an aspie even though you are too mild to be officially diagnosed as one.
However, schizoid doesn't have to be due to shaddow of Asperger. It can be due to shaddows of other things. For instance, if you have a very mild depression, it is too mild for you to actually be sad or depressed; but it is enough to make you introverted, which would put you into "schizoid" category. Or if you have a very mild schizophrenia it would be too mild to cause hallucinations or affect you at all in any other clinical way, but it would be just enough to make you withdrawn (as this is one of the "negative" symptoms of schizophrenia), so that would again make you schizoid. Or finally, you don't have to have a shaddow of anything at all, and be schizoid simply due to bad parenting.
By the way, I am not saying that anyone is being misdiagnosed. A lot of ppl know that whenever you are talking about "personality disorder" it might well be a shaddow of other things.
So, back to your question, in all of the cases where it is shaddow of things other than Asperger, no obsessions won't be part of it. But, for a small subgroup of schizoids that suffer from shaddow Asperger, yes they will experience obsessions.
My bullcrap alarm is going off.
I went for aspergers diagnosis and got this being the most probable diagnosis. along with ocd
but they never once asked about obsessive interests (which I have always had they last for years then switch) curently I only think about my obbsesive interest.
I get depersonlisation a good bit BUT
I have had it since I can remember. And every where I look says this diagnosis starts in early adulthood. So that doesn't fit.
They asked me little to no questions about how I act socialy it was just some block tests and a written mutliple choice test. but never anythin about picking up social cues or anything.
Example of me in 6th grade
turn to person behind me "MY NAMES TOTA AND I LIKE SODA AND TACO'S" (I thought this is how you made freinds.)
Because of this I was bullied very badly for that year. over the summer I taught myself to be "normal"
I used to look at people making jokes in class and think "Why are they doing that, school if for learning not joking"
I had ZERO social clues.
person looked at me then at someone else and asked if I was The R word
I have been taken advantage of by people I once called freinds (for years) I was very suseptable to it.
I have sensory overload . I can't stand seing things it feels wierd to be outside or have to much stuff to look at.
but this has all been since I was born.
so anyone else think this is not the correct diagnosis.
I really don't like that I was never asked about obsessive interests.
Isn't a lack of pleasure from anything (ahedonia) also a schizoid trait? I'm definitely not that, and I am happiest when I have active mild obsessions.

I just asked a psychiatrist friend about the differences between schizoid PD and AS. He mentioned the ahedonia that sgrannel brought up, but also pointed out that AS is a developmental disorder, whereas schizoid personality disorder (and all the other personality disorders) slowly manifest during adolescence and early adulthood, with prodromal phases. In other words, someone with a PD may be do relatively well as a small kid but deteriorate as a teenager or young adult, whereas someone with AS will likely do better with the practice that comes with getting older.
Also, schizoid PD includes what my friend calls "negative psychosis", that is to say the person with schizoid PD does not do things that should be done, from self-care to socializing. Such a person wouldn't have obsessive interests, nor take pleasure in pursuing them. Such a person also wouldn't have the nonverbal communication and socialization problems typical of an Aspie.
Hope that helps. Many docs don't know enough about AS to do a proper differential between it and the cluster C personality disorders (schizoid PD, schizotypal PD, and paranoid PD), says my friend.
anyone ever get diagnosed with this before AS and find out it was wrong and AS was right?
anyway I definatley have obsesive interest and find pleasure from them.
I got MUCH better since I was a kid even the depersonalisation has never been as bad as it was one year when I was a kid, though today it has been the worst it has in years. I think its from the stress.
This is what happend the first thing I was asked was
"why do you think you have aspergers syndrome"
I said "I read about it online and think I have it." I never went into detail never mentioned obsessive interests because I sortof froze from social aspects of someone I don't know. and since schizoid doesn't have that as a symptom (social problems) I can't see how I could have that.
I'm calling for a meeting to talk about my dx and bringing up the stuff I didn't before
I have ALWAYS had an obsessive interest
I have ALWAYS had SEVERE social problems
also most places say avoiding eye contact is an AS thing but these doctors are saying its a symptom of this though I can't find that anywhere.
I think I didn't tell them enough because I froze. and so they gave me this.
I think that "obsessive interests" are the criteria for the "diferential diagnosis" difference between AS and SPD.
I have read many articles saying that the symptoms of SPD begins in childhood - some say that the difference from AS is that SPD appears at midlle childhood and AS in early childhood, but I have doubts if is so easy to diferentiate between early and midlle childhood (SPD only is diagnosed in adulthood or lata adolescence, but this is because "personality disorders" require "an enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior...", and in children you can not see if the pattern is "enduring" or transitory.
turn to person behind me "MY NAMES TOTA AND I LIKE SODA AND TACO'S" (I thought this is how you made freinds.)

I think that, if you was schizoid:
- you most probably will ignore the person behind you
- if you are bullied, you most probably will think that there is something wrong with the other people, and you will not make any attempt to be "normal".

The thing is, if you see a doc who doesn't have a clue about AS, they will likely tell you off if you're over a certain age, "AS, isn't that for children?" And if they aren't that blunt, it makes sense that they'd sort of take you seriously but only look at adult diagnoses like schizoid. And since obsessive interests are not par tof schizoid I can see why they didn't ask.
