Boycott Wendy’s Fast Food

I’ve been waiting to do something like this since I was 10 or just around that time, but not really this way. At that age I hardly comprehended death, now it is just absents of thought.

Wendy’s Fast Food in Clear Lake County California, I do not know which one, killed my grandma. There was a big case because they almost killed my mom too. I got to witness my grandmother in a hospital on life support, and then they had to pull the plug.

My mom got really sick, just for some cheap sh***y hamburgers or whatever they ate. It was in the newspapers I think.

They got a sickness from an employee who cleaned the toilets then prepared food without washing there hands.

Careless food preparers that do not wash their hands could kill you.

This is scary!!
I am from Australia, we have a few Wendy's here. I guess there is risk with any fast-food places, this makes me want to stay away from all of them. I am pretty fussy when it comes to food hygiene(sp).
Seeing your grandma like that must have had a profound impact on you. That is a sight no one should have to see.
:(

Food poisoning can happen any time, anywhere, if an employee is careless. In Baltimore, a really famous Spanish restaurant called Tio Pepes (anyone who lives in Maryland has probably heard of it) ended up poisoning a lot of people because they didn't properly clean the leeks they were using in their food.

Sorry to hear about your grandma. I guess it is the luck of the draw with that kind of thing - but I tend to think along the lines of:

Unethical food -> unethical company -> unethical treatment of employees -> employees don't care -> unethical service.

Was that the Chi-Chi's thing with the green onions? I remember that. Chi-Chi's went out of business within a couple years of that. I don't think it was strictly that, but it certainly didn't help.

That does suck about your grandmother. I wouldn't support a boycott against wendies though because your story is probably not unique. I have heard about people eating bad food from a taco bell getting hepatitis and stuff. I think almost every food industry has probably killed at least one person. I don't think that the risk of me dying is high though, and I don't want to simply give up eating out out of fear. It is hard to blame companies for their workers in a situation like this. The workers are freshly hired idiots who mostly don't care and just want a crappy little job for money and there is no practical way for these companies to get better workers because nobody wants to work in the food industry(except for maybe high class dining)

Wow that is sad about your grandma. i work at Wendy's, personally i always wash my hands, my boss says i wash them too much. At our store were quite carefully with the food, We never have any big voilations when the health department comes in. So not all the Wendy's are bad.

At our Mc.Donald's, I try to be as sanitary as possible. But, we still have a problems here (the worst incident to happen here was there was a razor blade in one of our nuggest...which lead to the creation of our unofficial slogan: Mc.Donald's: Home of the *nearly* metal free nugget.). Tis saddening to hear about an employee's carelessness leading to your grandmother's death though.

I've only been to Wendy's, twice. I'm not going there again, after reading your story. :ninja: My Stomach is acting up, and my face is turning Green. From now on, the only Fast Food chain that I wish to order from, is Subway.

I don't think Wendy's itself should be blamed for it. It's the moronic employees. I'm sure if they were caught, they'd be fired. Maybe they should raise their standards for hiring employees or something.

I worked at a wendys in the 90's but I won't say where. They would handle raw meat, money, etc. then touch food. Also they only rinsed stuff. Unless the district mgr. was around. At a hardees they never washed the tomatoes before preparing them. I've seen stuff like that at a lot of jobs. And they think I'm the weird one if I say anything. E Coli can kill. Shame on them all. :x

All fast food places are like that. I worked at a Hardees while in college and it was certainly no better, and I've had food poisoning from McDonald's before.

If you really want to make a difference, boycott all fast food, not only for their paying only lip service to safe food handling and preparation, but also for their shady business tactics and for how terribly they pretty much all treat their employees. And you'll be healthier to boot, so it's a win-win situation.

The most recent incident of something in food around here was when a customer put snail bait in some bolognaise sauce at a well known restaurant chain.

Yeah, Sizzler's innit?

BTW, read "Fast Food Nation" by Eric Schlosser. You'll never look at fast food the same way again...

Yeah! Read "Fast Food Nation". The fast food industry is one of the most corrupt industries in existence. They tend to blame McDonalds, but that's understating the point of the matter. All fast food industries tend to act similarly, and the people who own the industries don't care. Maybe you should tour one of the animal farms that McDonald's uses. I doubt then that you'll just blame the employees, because the entire industry is simply sick.

I have eaten at fast food places in the past, but nowadays not nearly as much as I used to. I tend to seek those places that are more family-owned. I don't even know if they're truly better or not. I've also done some research on a few, and if I go to an ice cream parlor, I like it to be Ben & Jerry's ...
