Does anyone else here ever worry if someone hacked into your account or if someone is going around PMing people making stuff up about you?

I have had this scare twice. Someone once called me a yuppie hispter and it freaked me out because I couldn't understand how that person got that idea and the fact he wouldn't answer when I asked what makes me those so it made me wonder if someone was going around PMing people telling them that about me and who knows what else that person is saying. Then today I send someone a PM asking her a curious question and she was pretty defensive and then she said I never liked her so she gets suspicious of my sudden concern so that also freaked me out but that got resolved. The first one was resolved too but I will never know why that person called me those things.

I am not paranoid, but I have had to deal with a friend who was like that.

I don't even know what a yuppie hispter is. Is this an American phrase?

No, I've never been worried about that. If it ever happened, I'm sure it would be reported to the mods very quickly anyway.

it is kinda a scary thing. But, I am who I am, and I know who I am. And I know that my friends and all the people I really care about know that too. They are all smart enought to figure out whats true and whats not. Many people in person and over the internet, seem to like to make fun of me and spread rumors and whatnot, I dont know why me but I seem to be a popular target. But when it really comes down to it, the people that really know you, and are really your friend wont believe and crap people spread about you.
Of course, it really does depend on the person...and over the internet things are trickier.

I know rumors have been spread about me in real life and online. That's why I would rather not believe what I hear about someone unless I see it myself or hear it from them but I know not all people are that way. Maybe this paranoia goes back to from when I was in 5th grade when one of my old best friends decided to talk bad about me on the school bus every Monday morning because I wasn't on it every Monday morning. She made stuff up about me and little kids believed her and it cost me a new friend for a short bit. My mom says she was a coward because she had to do it when I wasn't on the bus. I agree. But I did kick her butt on the bus verbally. I actually wanted to beat her up.

What is a "yuppie hipster"? I just looked up both words and, while each is meaningful in its own right, the compound expression seems like an oxymoron. It would freak me out just trying to figure out what they supposedly meant! :?

Anyway, if someone hacked my account, I wouldn't panic--it's not like they can get my credit card numbers or anything vital from WP (although I would be highly annoyed). I'd use the "Contact Us" link at the top of the page to alert the admins as soon as possible, however, to minimize the damage and possible fallout.

Stuoid Teen, "scene kids" leaning towards the emo and urban wanna be catagory. Whinny kids who think they are better than the rest of the entire f*****g world. Can usually be recognised if they cut their own hair and dye it black or bleach it. People who think they are so hippie and urban, but they get their styles from department stores at the mall and pay LOTS of money to buy things that look like they got at good will, or a thrift store.

Makes literally no sense to me. I'd like to slap whoever wrote that actually.

I'm a paranoid android of the highest order but I know I am so just dismiss anything that doesn't stand up to reason no matter how much I want to believe it. I say dismiss it but it's always in the back of my mind I just try not to let it influence my actions too much.

Racooneyes: Sounds like the latest version of what my older sisters used to call a "day-tripper": someone who was a "hippie" on the weekends, but went back to school and their parents' homes during the week.

Spokane Girl: Yes, I get that way sometimes, too. I have to talk myself down from it. It's not that I think anyone actually is spreading rumors or lies about me, just that I worry they might, if that makes sense. :(

I worry that people think I am some sort of bigot because I am a Christian.

Yuppie and hipster are two different words.

But they can make posts under your account and people read them and think they were done by you and you never know about it because you didn't see those posts he or she made.

You can change your password if that's bothering you.

I think I did after the yuppie hipster incident but this time I didn't change it because she was able to answer my question about what was going on. Just a silent misunderstanding between us.

But you'd discover that rather soon, I would think, by the "fallout" PMs and/or replies, or a faulted login because your password had been changed. At which time you could query for your own posts and identify anomalies, and take remedial action via the WP moderation team.

I guess I can't appease your paranoia--I could never appease my own.

But, on the grand scheme of things, I'd declare it a minimal (if not non-) entity.

BTW, I watched Benny & Joon for the first time a few weeks ago. I must admit that I hate the character of Benny, and it made me want to gouge out Aidan Quinn's beautiful blue eyes every time he got a close-up.

Please be well, SG--you are one of my favorite people here! :)

I swear I am one of the most hated people here but that is maybe also my paranoia because my name never gets mentioned for what WP members people miss or other things. :D

Oh Benny was just protecting his sister thinking Sam was taking advantage of her. He suffered Over Protective Brother syndrome. He was obviously effected by the death of their parents. While Joon got sick, he got over protective being the father figure over her and a brother. But then he comes around and lets Joon grow up by letting her be on her own and lets her have Sam.
