How to stop mind racing at end of day and get to sleep.

I find going out in the community quite traumatic.. so I need to manually shut down mind at end of day.. so I can get good early nights sleep to enable full functioning next day.. and to enable going out first thing.
It is not natural to be so energetic at night. It is artificial.

Solution:
I find the earlier I come in at night (from community) is useful. say 4hr pre sleep
But in addition a hot bath 3hr pre bed. Your body temperature lowers after that.
Also reduce sources of stimulation. Also good to emotionally heat-sink to other people.. but I live alone.

Or go outside in the garden. In the cold and lie down on the grass... and your body and consequently your mind is force to comply and slow down.

I'm seeing a doctor who helps with that along with a lot of other things that are the negative side-effects of AS. I take a lot of suppliments that help with focus and mood without reducing any of the positive traits.

Experience the same thing.

Would love a bath every night but being on rain tank water prohibits this.... A sort shower is better than nothing... I follw up with a hot chocolate and take a hot waterbottle to bed if I need to.... my body thermostat is not normal so am very temperature sensitive.

I also take Melatonin.

I always fall asleep listening to the BBC world service. I have always found the sound of newscasters on the radio soothing. Also, if I am listening to the broadcast, my mind is not racing and thinking about anything else.

I avoid caffeine in the afternoons, as I find this may cause my brain to race at night.

to wind down I play Warcraft III or Defense of the Ancients or a similar BNET game.

I typically watch tv and movies until my eyes become sore and I can't keep them open, then I fall to sleep shortly after. :)

Apparently, some people find it very relaxing to listen to the shipping news...
I just watch a boring movie or read a boring book.

I've been taking magnesium supplements for about a week and I do seem to be calmer and to sleep better once I get to sleep. Getting to sleep however, is still a problem, but not quite as bad as it was before the supplements. Keeping the TV on does help a little.

I try not to get involved with big, massive things that need solving right before I go to bed. Having 30 minutes to unwind by doing something more mindless really helps...

I have a particular daydream storyline that I continue every night until I fall asleep. It works pretty well. Like reading a book, except you don't have to put in the bookmark and turn off the light.

I can't sleep, and I can't unplug my brain... it races and races. When I do manage to fall sleep and dream, I spend the equivalent of days or weeks in the dream, only to wake that I have slept for perhaps an hour or two, and get confused as to where I am for awhile. If you find a solution to your problem, I am all ears, eyes and fingers - please let me know.

Roughly same here. I'm always thinking. Usually about more than one thing. How does one stop thinking? A request for me to stop thinking would seem to be on the same order as a request for me to stop my heart... Simply impossible.

Though I did figure out how to focus on a single thing (as opposed to indiscriminate focus on everything) earlier today (really helps with video games :) )... Perhaps that will help me.

UPDATE: That totally worked!

I take a short, hot shower a few hours before bed and exercise during the day. I also try to relax for a few hours before sleeping, and I take melatonin and a calcium magnesium supplement.

This will probably make me sound like some sort of psycho but when i go to bed i imagine that i am a sniper in some sort of bunker. Imagining the construction of the bunker and how safe it is followed by the sniper aspect ie. power of life and death from a distance seems to calm my brain down enough for me to go to sleep. I also have another scenario involving a room / bedroom on a space ship and the detail of its construction then i image what cryogenic sleep would be like. Thats usually enough for me unless its too hot. I put off heat like a convection oven when i sleep and if i had things my way i would sleep in ice cold aircon all the time but the wife cant tolerate it.
