I've been volunteering at this public access TV station for 4 years now plus a college internship there. They have a job posted at the station and I have 2 years of College experience and 4 years experience volunteering there. But there's something that haunts me. I used to have a satirical public access TV station there where I parodied some of the goofy shows on the station. There's this one guy who has a personality disorder and he has caused destructive crimes like stalking, beating up his ex-wives, etc. He's basically a big joke at the station to the TV show producers and even the bosses. I was asked in March to do a parody of this guy on my show from a fan, so I did. Weirdest thing is he would usually get really angry and threaten to sue people who have mocked him but he never came after me, besides I didn't use his name. (One time I said his name by mistake in another parody which didn't have anything to do with him). Plus before I stopped my public access TV show, I did a parody of myself which was a cartoon of me 100 years old in a hospital and it was basically making fun of Asperger's Syndrome depression and suicidal thoughts in a humorous satirical manner which scared a couple of people. The people at the station thought it was funny but I had to talk to them because they were scared too. They called the police on me in March just to make sure that I was okay and I has. I quit my show after words but I still volunteered at the station and it seemed that no one held any grudges on me and they always smiled to see me. I remember apologizing a few times about the episode and they laughed at told me not a big deal.

Anyways, they posted a job over at the station, this job ad was open in the Summer and I applied a few times, and now they re-applied for it today which they re-posted it last month.

Here's my fears, is the reason why I'm not getting the job which has been posted since the summer because of my show in Spring even though none of the people there had a problem with it?

And If I did get the job, I still fear that person that I mocked in March and would he try to come after me since I have to help him with his show? But then again, Comcast would have my back and protect me if I worked there. And If I'm not hired, hopefally it's not because of my irreverent humor when I had a public access show back in the spring.

I don't know how strict companies are, the station knew me for 4 years.

So in other words, It would be nice to have the job and it won't.

Personally, I just want to be an Artist getting Hollywood like jobs but my parents tell me that it's unrealistic blah blah blah and my dreams will never come true.

I'm trying to find other jobs but there doesn't seem to be any in my field. If I did get a part-time job somewhere like a grocery store or something and if the public access station did want me to work with them then I have to because that's what my parents paid me to go to college for.

So it's like I don't want the job but I have to have it. Or It would be nice but it would be hell. And I would rather be an artist getting Government money but I guess that's life. :(

Well I guess I just talked to my Mom on the phone and she said that My Satirical puppet show wouldn't have any effect on my job because that's my hobby and it's not my job. And If I don't get the job, it's probably because I didn't have enough experience. And as for that crazy person, I guess the station would save my back from any danger from him.

It is quite difficult to guess what these guys have in mind. They may hate what you did, but they smile at you instead, thinking .. "here is the mad-guy again".

It depends, if you are the best for the job, and if the job has no danger that you could repeat the "problem". Anyways you can try to be more sociable to these guys and try to show/explain them that you had a other personal problems at that moment, and that you learnt your lesson, and it should not happen again. ..
Good luck

Ciao

Well that all happened back in March and it's coming to November now. They actually thought that my show was very funny. They smile at me because I'm one of the only people that is persay decent and normal unlike the freaks and crazies that usually walk in. Including people who think they are this fantasy mid-evil religion and have personality disorders and such.

If they had an issue with what you did in the past, they won't hire you...it's that simple.

Don't focus on it because you'll waste your energy on that and not doing your job if you are hired.

Thanks true. But I'm just terrifide by the wacko that's there. The crazy biker guy. I don't want him to start stalking me and causing trouble.

Great News, Job has been taken. What a releif.

I remember I talked to my Mom about this crazy and how I did a comedy sketch based on him and she told me that if he didn't come after me back in March, he wouldn't now. And that's true, even if he did see it. He didn't come after me, probably doesn't care. Besides, I didn't use his name. But one time I did with one of my puppet characters taking other people's medication and one was based on this loony's name and I didn't get in trouble for that. My jokes on that person are over, I just need to relax and move on. :)

To me that is a realistic concern. A prospective job requires you to work with an individual that you know is a bully, who is in fact violent. The fact that you did a parody show, well, it could be that, or any other little detail that could set him off. If you had gotten the job, the goal might have been to be polite but formal, and to matter-of-factly keep your distance.

Okay, with your artistic pursuits, I wish you all the best, do your best work, try a of experiments, mistakes included. I think that's the way artists do it. It's a very serpentine path, but you can make a lot of money.

Yes, you can make a lot of money in art, but it just doesn't come on any kind of schedule. It has to be something you believe in, you know that of course, it has to have your unique artistic voice, and it also has to take chances. And taking chances means that it will sometimes fall flat, it will sometimes fail to communicate.

Maybe you could get a good pen name, do shows on YouTube, build up a following, and then when the Internet goes to microtransactions---which I predict it will---you will be in position to make some real money. (Microtransactions, people will be happy to pay half a penny for a written news story, somewhat more for video, but you'll get enough viewers that you're make as much or more than you would from advertisers.) Again, it might work. No reason it won't work. But the whole situation is highly variable, and can go in a number of different directions.

I currently have about 300 videos on YouTube and about 100 viewers. Unfortunatly there's a couple of Muslim People who were selling Bootleg DVDs of my work and I told them strictly to stop it.

The job however was taken because it was saved for someone who worked for the company and was posted in the internet for legal purposes.
I'm taking a break from volunteering at the public access station for a month and I'm probably only going to volunteer once or twice a month, thank god it's when that personality disorder Biker isn't there.

Please remember, people love new stuff. Watch any Blockbuster, people do the outer walls with the new releases.

Okay, what if you, maybe with a team you build, consistently had a new release, say, every Thursday afternoon. Sometimes a little earlier, sometimes a little later, but sometime during Thurs. afternoon, each and every week. And you could have a couple in reserve, and that way, you could experiment, take the occasion vacation, and so forth. Might that help to build viewers?

Well right now I'm not so much conserned about getting viewers but more on the artwork itself and getting in contact with the right people and not just these Muslim people who want to make Bootleg DVDs and dub their voices making it sound like I'm saying "allah"+"Sallom" and stuff like that.

And for a team, I don't have one but I would want to find the most talented people to help my show out. For me a real good quality 30 minute episode takes about 2 months to make, this includes being stressed out and needing long hours to relax when my parents are home and start recording 2 hours at night when at least one of them goes to bed.

You have clearly requested one time, and that is all you can do. Many people (I hope still a minority) do not act ethically on the Internet, and that's the fact of the matter. The only other thing is to move laterally, go to another video site and/or use a new pen name. It's an unfair situation, but I can't think of anything else.

It's entirely normal for artists to be stressed out. That's almost a stage of the work!

And yeah, parents can crowd. I recommend that you keep it brief, keep it respectful, and just tell your parents that you need more space, particularly in the evenings.

Okay, as far as the art itself, and that's the fun part, although it does sometimes take a while to get to it, what if: kind of as an experiment and with the goal of stretching your artistic muscles, you aim some shows for 45 minutes and other shows for 20 minutes?

Well now it seems that the Muslims are leaving me alone. There was one asking why was his blocked on YouTube and I didn't bother answering.

My show is like political cartoons that you would see in the newspaper except they move and it's through puppets in a digitally animated cartoon world. Each sketch is under 2 minutes each so it's like 15 sketches in one show and making it look professional looking even though I'm working in a small space in my parents basement.

And maybe sometimes the skits are loosely together on a topic, maybe sometimes not?

I'm only suggesting different time lengths because you might hit a sweet spot. For example, what if you can hit a 90 minute collection of loosely connected skits in only four months? Well, then, you have triple the length, but only double the time invested.

Or, what if a collection of five two-minute skits, you can turn out just like popcorn?

I know trying experiments have helped with my own writing.
