Serious post here, move it as you will, I just had to post this.

There's a walking baby (crawling, actually) that's destroying the forums.

You read correctly. Everytime this baby comes around, it freezes the forums.

It's an ad for "Georgia University", I think, and it features a baby who crawls on the screen.

It freezes the forum links while this baby walks, scaring you as it does.

Anyone else demolished it with AdBlocker?

I've not seen it.

Could you have picked up a piece of spy/adware on your system?

He said it was an ad for Georgia. Georgia is in the United States so I doubt someone would try to advertise it in england. I haven't seen the ad either, however.

If I use Firefox, this forum usually crashes it, often forcing my system to reboot. Internet Explorer is more durable but it still crashes once in a while. I think it has to be those ads. I get better results when I scroll down so the banners aren't visible.

I've never seen that particular one, but I have seen ones where you try to click on something moving or throw some ball or whatever -- and that take over Firefox. Is that a way of getting attention to that ad, by bogging down the browser if you don't do what's in it?

I haven't seen the ad, but it is (most likely) a Flash movie; have you dtried updating your Flash player and browser version? Some of the Flash ads, if you right clikc, you can click "Play" to stop it.

Hijacking the links of the page is most likely in the movie's actionscript.

April 9, 1991. The Russians were reluctant to let them go.

At best some of these ads make my machine run quite slowly. I have a Samual 2 processor supposedly an Athlon 2000 XP equivalent (ha ha) so even with its limitations it should take a lot to slow it down.
