I just heard about this fairly recent study, which suggests that the administration of Oxytocin to autistic adults results in an immediate reduction of repetitive behaviors and an increase in facial/social recognition and interaction. These changes were shown to remain when the subjects were tested in these areas two weeks later.

Still a long way off from any kind of treatment with this stuff, but based on the current information, I'd gladly sign up as a test subject!

What do you think?

I was prescribed nasal oxytocin, two shots (don't remember how many micrograms) in each nostril twice daily for three weeks, for a study. I honestly could not feel any effect. I don't think it did anything. I would be willing to try again though. I like the idea.

ummmm......

just rub your nipples.

in females this releases oxytocin and it may release something analogous in males if not just oxytocin itself.

oxytocin is thought to play a part in pair bonding. obvioulsy it does much more than that.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxytocin

Oxytocin is a naturally occuring hormone that is in part responsible for the human feelings of love and trust. It is indeed released after orgasm, as well as when a mother breastfeeds her baby.

In this study, subjects were given a 4-hour intravenous drip of Oxytocin, and then evaluated on stimming behavior and social cognition. They showed marked improvements after the treatment, as well as two weeks later when they were tested again; this time without having received any Oxytocin.

I find the possibilities here absolutely fascinating.

yeh it is pretty interesting stuff. i find it effects me most when my girlfriend has stayed over for 2 days or so. perhaps that is another chemical. oxytocin levels are generally raised by lots of kissing in guys and actually lowered in woman by lot's of kissing, unless they are using the pill, in which case it is raised.

it also makes sense with the nipples to because it helps a mother build a greater bond with her child if she breastfeeds
