Like it is for anyone else.

Employers want someone willing to work, able to show up and ready to work when scheduled, and once they know their job duties...able to work all day without having to be watched to make sure the tasks are done. If you can manage yourself, that's a plus.

Believe it or not, finding that in anyone is getting harder each year.

What will hurt you with AS is being able to convey that you can do the job to a prospective employer, and if you deal with the public (in addition to coworkers) there is a concern on how your AS symptoms impact that area as well. However, if you can manage, you should be as valuable an employee as anyone else.

Networking is one of the best bet, just mention to everyone you know that you are hunting for work. Also just advertising on bulletin boards for odd jobs works. If you are good at something..advertise on Craigslist, just remember that your time is valuable.

Once you start working, just remember that the main purpose of at business is to make the owner money. If you are a good value for the buck, you will go far... If you are more hassle then you are worth, expect a short career.

Remember when you are looking for a job you are selling yourself as a product, not a person. Don't bring up your personal life in interviews, do not talk too much.. answer all questions promptly and honestly. If they want a round peg & you are a square, DO NOT try to become a round peg... but sell them on the idea a square is so much better for the job.

Read a good book on selling, like "Getting to Yes"
