How many on WP do you think really have some form of autism?

Obviously there are a few clear-cut cases (age1600, the kid obsessed with straps, Kevin I, the guy with the Lost in Space Robot as his picture) but the vast majority of WPers seem to be pretty neurally ambiguous. There are easily hundreds of regular contributors to this message board, how many of them do you think might actually be afflicted with autism/Asperger's vs. the members with other social issues who've convinced themselves they have it? Just curious.

Not going to even bother responding.

Even with a paradox!

As the old new-to-me saying goes, "If you have met one Aspie, you have met one Aspie."

I am certain about myself, and that is the end of that matter. For me, one of the neat things about WP is the overall acceptance of each other just as we are or are not.

The only contribution I am going to allow myself to make is that autism is a spectrum. The people you're going to see on here will by their very nature be on the higher-functioning end of that spectrum. And the written word is coded differently in the brain than speech. Most people with ASDs tend to have better writing skills than speaking skills. I know I have always found it (emotionally) easier to write than to speak.

I guess it really doesn't matter to me. There are people here who go through a lot of what I go through. I don't care what their diagnoses, if any, are... I just care that I'm not alone.

I probably don't seem like one on here, because I oppinionate. I am more knowledged in verbal agression that polightness, so if you'd met me in person, you would wander why I am completly quiet, as NTs around me always are. Nope, not kissing up anything. It's the freaking trueth.

There are many different flavors of autism. Many of us only had the "in your face" obvious autistic symptoms when we were 3-8 years old and grew into mostly introverted/shy teenagers and adults.

Does it matter? We all seem to relate to each other
well enough, so whether there is actually a medical term that can be put to that is a bit irrelevant, I think.

And people are honest about whether they've been officially diagnosed with anything or not, so you can make what you like of that.

(Unofficially diagnosed by someone who knows what they're talking about but isn't a doctor.)

This doesn't make sense.. The way your post went, it sounded like you were saying that only the people with classical autism "really have it," but then at the end, you asked how many have "asperger's/autism."

I don't think there's much point in trying to determine who qualifies for the "most autistic" award. It doesn't matter. I come here because I like the people here. I've read so many words of wisdom from people all over the spectrum. I feel like I've gained something from all kinds of people here, of all ages and all kinds of neurodiversity. Sometimes the person who says just what I need to hear is someone who is way more affected by autism than myself. Sometimes it's a person who is completely NT.

The thing that makes WP cool, for me, is that since we acknowledge that this is a place of neurodiversity, it's okay for us to be ourselves. You can say that you're obsessed with the French Revolution or can openers, and know that that will be accepted. Or you can say that you have trouble getting along with people, or that you cried at work because someone was stinking out the office with microwave popcorn. People here will understand, and maybe share a story of their own, and it doesn't matter if they are NT, mildly AS, classic LF autism, or any variation thereof.

Exactly 4327.6. I'm surprised you don't know this already. The .6 is from one of our members with multiple personalities. Six have it, four don't.

What kind of BS question is this? Are you looking to sit in judgement of people? Trying to start some trouble by making someone name some names? Or do you think you're part of some "club" now and don't want other kids to join?

If they think they do and say they do, that's good enough for me.

I have no idea and I don't care.
