Do you guys/gals take medication? If so, which ones? How do you feel about it? I take Seroquel, Strattera, and Prozac. (I hate the Strattera and Prozac)

I took venlafaxine (Efexor) until recently, bleugh. I was prescribed it when it became apparent I was depressed, but the side effects were a pain in the neck (serious sleepiness, woolly thinking, hallucinations, mood swings, loss of 'feeling' (blank instead of pissed off - like being inside a cloud). Woke up one morning feeling like I couldn't remember who I was and that I had lost a year of my life, and started to taper the dose - the worst thing about Efexor is the withdrawal as it is very short acting (hence the mood swings I reckon) - finally coming off it totally in september. I'm still depressed but think the drugs just stabilised it, so couldn't see me putting up with the side effects for years and years.

Still it kept me doped enough to tolerate work for a few months before I finally freaked, so it served a purpose I guess :? Question is whether pills are a long term remedy for environmental and psychological causes of depression.... its a bit like sticking a plaster on a bullet hole so no one else can see....

will shut up now, I never intended to rant

Yeah , exactly. I've been on prozac and zoloft... in fact, I'm supposed to be on zoloft now, I've got a big paper bag of pills I'm supposed to be taking. But as the song goes, I have no faith in medicine-

"Disturberd animals are given prozac too, which rather suggests that misery is a response to unbearable circumstances rather than constitutional. The caged tiger is being treated not for the misfortune of being a tiger but for the misforune of being in a zoo"-Germaine Greer.

I take Paxil for depression but it hasn't worked really since I started it in March and now I don't really feel I need it as much anyways for the first time in 12 years. Of course I also take asthma puffers too.

I take Adderall. It is actually taken for ADD and it's not that bad. It makes me lose my appetite and sometimes causes stomach pains, but not too often. It helps me concentrate at school and makes me less impulsive so it is worth it in the end.

I used to take Adderall, but it caused violent meltdowns; so they took me off it.
