I remember Blizzard of 96 really well. This blizzard is just as bad.Our neighborhood hasn't been plowed yet. I probably won't go to work tomorrow. I am a contractor with Fed Govt, and Fed Govt rarely closes even during blizzards. Probably give employees liberal leave. But the subway trains aren't running above ground today and the buses aren't running either. So if they still have issues tomorrow, then Fed Govt HAS to close. Anyone else in the DC metro area? Has your neighborhood been plowed yet? Keep safe and warm. :)

What gets me is that this came rather early, usually we get this in the middle of January until early march.

I'm in SW VA. I am presently resting and warming up after partially digging my car out. I have to go back out there. 8O

Damit! This is not a blizzard. It is a standard variety snow storm that comes during the cold season of the year in the northern temperate zones.

b***h'n and Moan'n about two feet of snow. What a bunch of wusses!

Well in Northern VA 2 feet of snow in Dec is unheard of.

:P Come the next Ice Age you'll regret that smart-alek remark.

(like we say around here, better a smart alek than a dumb alek)

Are you near Roanoke area? Were the public schools near you closed? The public schools in the county I live in are closed for tomorrow and Wed. The kids don't go back to school till Jan 4th. I talked to my grandmother who lives in Central NJ and the kids went to school like normal today. SW VA and even NO VA I think aren't used to seeing this much snow especially in Dec. The last time our area got hit hard by snow was Feb 2003.

Yes, I live in Roanoke. The schools are closed today and probably will be tomorrow but they haven't said so yet. My son is crossing his fingers. We get snow like this only about once a decade. BTW my oldest brother lives in Fairfax Station. I always wondered when people said they were from Northern VA and never said a specific town. Now I know, it's all basically one massive suburb. :)

well olkahoma city is shut down completely...all the major highways are shut down and the road cleaning crew cant get to the cleaning vehicles because of the 5-6 ft drifts caused by 12 in of snow blown at 55 mph in 6 hours. Tow trucks are stuck, ambulances and police cars have been wrecked and they are talking about getting atv'ers to get people out to the slow removal equptment. Thats were my grandpa lives. He is spending Christmas alone eating processed turkey and a candle cause his power is out. I live in minnesota, we usually get alot of snow here, but the storm has not got here for the most part. We have about four inches so far, but the storm has not really reached where I am at yet. The severeity of the storm has more to do with an areas ability to clear it. 2 feet of snow in minnesota is not that bad because we have alot of equiptment and they plow during the storm so it never builds up like it did in ok city, but in a place like Georgia...2 feet would be devastaing because they dont even have snow removal equptment. So you cant really compare one area to another by inches alone.

And the bad news is, the one coming from the west is going to met by one like hit the east, it just rolled through here, heading north, fast. We got rain from both, a moisture plume off the Gulf, but it is going to be a lot of white farther north.
