I never. NEVER. get offended.

Do any of you also feel this way?

In order to know something has never happened to you, you must know
what it is like in the first place. Because no one can tell you what it is
like to be offended any more than they can tell you what the colour red
is like, you have no way of knowing if you have never been offended or
you just fail to identify what being offended is like when it does happen.

I'm with you. I am extremely indifferent to what others think of me or say about me. Good luck trying to offend or insult me!

I don't get angry or intimidated easily either.

Sounds like a challenge.

But I dont generally either. Why be bothered by an opinion or an outright lie?

I can never quite fathom when guys get all hot and bothered when some other guy claims carnal knowledge with his mother.

Some cultures seem to take it a lot better than others. In my town there are a lot of Swedes and Dutch, and many just laugh off stuff like that. But if you said it to the Newfoundlanders - lots of them here too - (of Irish/Scotch/English ancestry) they'd come unhinged.

And the more rare Italians and Spanish(around here) seemed even touchier. Problem is, I cant claim anything more than observational bias. Those are all Canadians by birth. There are definitely sub-cultures from different areas of Canada, but I only have 4 years experience getting in the middle of fights.

I have no idea of those are cultural shibboleths from the old countries.

To become offended one must respect and value the opinion of some jerk who decides to be nasty. The mere expression of idiotic insults devalues the speaker and to become offended indicates to a degree the lack of confidence of the accused in his/her own sense of self.

hmmm - it's difficult to tell. I think I've been offended in the past. And I hardly interact with people so there hasn't been much opportunity for it I guess. I don't mind if anyone wants to try - and see what happens! Things like this get me stumped. But I guess I'm interested because I suspect that it would take a lot to offend me.

I don't trust any statement that says never or always. I bet I can offend you.

Hmm... I'm sure that something will offend you. But probably not a person spewing insults. That doesn't offend me either. I also find satire extremely amusing, even if it insults something that I like. But even though people like us aren't offended easily, I'm sure there's something that could do it.

She said, whilst calmly sipping her tea with a twinkle in her eye.

I can't help it - I love nevers, always and ultimatums. Though I try hard to remain open to other possibilities. Sometimes it makes me unsettled to be somewhere uncertain like between 'all' or 'nothing'. Future science will know what I'm talking about.

"Never" is a term useful only in self consistent theoretical systems such as mathematics.

As far as the laws of mathematics refer to reality, they are not certain, and as far as they are certain, they do not refer to reality.
Albert Einstein

ppf! If that's what he really said Einstein can bite me! What else can mathematics refer to if it's not reality. Some other mode of existence? ppf! That's the actual beauty OF mathematics - that it reflects reality in certain terms. If I have 10 apples in a bowl and take 1 away it leaves 9. But according to Einstein that's only theoretical? According to Einstein in reality there could actually be 7 or 8. Who knows? It's not certain! lol

The whole of existence can be broken down into each of the eight particles of an atom. With a big enough mind they could all be counted. Small mind = small numbers. Big mind = BIG numbers!

Mathematics is a language. Like any language it can model some aspects of what we call reality. It can also investigate fictitious universes and alternate concepts of what we perceive. Einstein knew very well what he was talking about.

Yeah but the language, labels, concepts ARE our reality. Both perception and conception make up our existence. If you're trying to tell me that reality is only that which exists in the physical realm then I must be dead!

Is Einstein like God to you - infallible? lol
