Hi

After my various posts about getting a new computer, I finally did it! Last night I bought a Imac! I should be getting it in the next few days or so. Thanks for everyone's help and advice. I'll try to keep everyone posted about the new Imac on it's way to me.

Happy Holidays!

From my research and discussions with other people (including this site) the operating system in the Mac is much more stable and more virus resistant than Windows. It's going to be a change that I'm going to have to get used. I was thinking about the Mini Mac at first but it appears the iMac seems to be better made from what I understand and it offers more.

Good choice!

Definitely a good decision to get the iMac over the Mac Mini. The iMac will be more than powerful enough to run Windows comfortably if you ever have the need for it, while the Mini may have struggled a bit.

Don't forget to buy the 'Macscan'. I love running mine and do it regularly. :)

Awesome choice :D

iMac is a great machine. I made the switch earlier this year and would never go back!

I got my new Imac yesterday. I like it. I have to admit it's going to take me some time to get use to. For the most part everything works but there are a couple of problems:

1. I have a HP PSC 2175 all-in-one Printer (Printer, Scanner and Copier) which for some reason does not print documents on the Imac. I did load the software and properly connected the printer to the Imac as instructed but it still does not work. The printer does go on, it's ready and even the Imac shows it's ready but once I print nothing happens. When I check the status of the job it just says error and nothing more.

2. I'm noticing that I cannot play online games on the Imac even after loading the software the sites ask for such as Media Player... Any ideas why? I hope I can at least play these games on the Imac.

Thanks for your support and Happy Holidays.

HP printers normally work without a fuss- did you use Apple's included drivers or try to install drivers from the disk that came with your printer? With a Mac, you should always trust Apple's own drivers before trying anything else. Other than that, I don't know how to fix this problem.

If you're using Safari, it may be an incompatibility with 32-bit software. You can either use Firefox for those sites, or go into your Applications folder, right-click Safari, click "Get info" and check "Open in 32-bit mode" to make Safari act like a traditional 32-bit program.

Actually I did do a software update right after I posted this. The software update contained a HP printer driver. I downloaded and installed it. So far it now works. Thanks! I will also download Mozilla Firefox for the other issue. Thanks.

I tried putting Safari in 32-bit mode but that did not work. I even tried resetting the Safari browser. I did download and installed both Mozilla Firefox and Camino browsers. Even though I was able to get on to the games, the quality of the games is not good. They break up and don't load too well. I was not able to find out how to put Mozilla or Camino on 32- bit mode.

Firefox and Camino only come in 32-bit. What games in particular are these? It could be Flash acting up.

For example one of the games is Bullpen Blast. It's a game on candystand.com. It's a good game. It's not a Flash game. It's a game on shockwave player. The game does load on Camino and Firefox but the quality is all over the place. It's hard to explain but I know it's not right. For Safari, the game does not load at all, not matter what I do but I won't really worry about the game on Safari since I can at least get it on Firefox and Camino.

What is Macscan? Is that some sort of virus scan...? Is it really good? Is it needed for a Mac? If I do decide to install it will it mess up on how the Mac works?

With sensible web surfing I would recommend against any anti-virus for Macs. I simply don't believe it is needed.

Others believe differently, but until I experience any issues myself I won't be clogging things up with anti-virus software.
