So we had an apointment with Dr. Charles Hayes (Psychologist) today and got some interesting news

He said based on Joey's level of social interaction, he does not beleive that he is autistic, but may have PDD, NOS. This may have been caused by his breathing problems shortly after birth, coupled with his Ventricular Septial Defect (Heart condition), may have resulted in Hypoxia (Lack of oxygen to the brain) at 10-29 hours old. He said that Joey definately has major gross motor, verbal and comprehension delays, and that I should continue to persue further assessment (He's not equipt to diagnose children).

Does anyone know of any resources about PDD NOS that I could do some research on this? Everything I've found online so far has been very vague.
Thanks!

The difficulty with PDD-NOS is that it is the "catch-all" that accommodates people whose circumstances appear on the spectrum, but who don't get enough checkboxes on the lists to meet the definition of Asperger's or Autism.

But, nonetheless, PDD-NOS is on the spectrum, and resources that are available for other ASDs should be applicable. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to ASDs, and whether a child has profound autism, AS or PDD-NOS, the resources will have to be adapted to that child's unique circumstances.

I would start with your local autism support organizations, and seek referrals to specialists who are equipped to help with the particular deficits.
