Does anyone think you should be on pills?

I don't mean doctors, I mean people.

My husband thinks I should be on medication for my anxiety and ADD. But I don't see the point. My ADD is mild and it's not that bad but he thinks it's pretty bad just because of my short attention span and I "can't even do one thing." Also why take medication for anxiety if it rarely happens? I stay out of situations that cause it and I learned to stay calm in certain ones like waiting in traffic, waiting in line, when I can't find my car keys in my purse. Plus I'm in control of my environment so that helps and he does nothing to cause my anxiety. He says how do I know I'm not having anxiety, I'm not even aware of my own feelings unless they get extreme. No, they get extreme and that's when I have it. I don't need to get drugged for anxiety that occasionally happens. The environment I'm in, my anxiety doesn't happen much. Nothing to cause it.

Before my wedding, it was May and my mom said I should take medication for anxiety until the wedding but I saw no point in it. It was a month away. My defense was "Don't all women get stressed out before the wedding? Do they need pills?" and my mom went on about how it's different for me and how those women can control themselves and I can't. They don't get violent and hit their fiancees or throw things or have meltdowns. My mom saw me snapping at him like I was about to hit him because he interrupted me during my game play.

I am against medication unless a person has such a severe imbalance they cant function and wish for themselves to take it. i disagree with doctors who can be so pushy with meds, it has happened to me. Meds rewire your brain, not something to be taken lightly.

There are many behavioural and lifestyle changes a person with ADHD and anxiety can make. I think that is a better thing to look at first before going on the meds.

The wife pretty much demanded it. So I'm doing it. Here's my daily consumption:

TBH, some days I want to gag when I see that pile o' pills in front of me. But, I think they've helped, on balance. And that's in spite of the jaw-grinding, insomnia, constipation, etc. Not sure exactly what will happen if the ADHD-PI diagnosis gets switched to Asperger's, but doubtless they'll be some more pills in there somewhere. :P

Someone at the factory that I worked at, many years ago told me, that I needed to be on pills for depression. That woman was right. My GP put me on Paxil and Riperidone.

Oh I just remembered. I was 23 and my husband and I were at the beauty saloon and he was having his hair get done. I was talking and pacing back and forth and then I heard the lady say to my husband "Does she take anything to calm her down?" He said no and she said I should take something. I was fine. I don't know what she saw that made her think I needed to take pills. Back then I was taking Imapraime (sp) but then I stopped taking it last summer.

WorldsEdge, you are LUCKY! I want those first three on your list. I'm on one of them, Wellbutrin, and I'm also on Abilify, which is also great for motivation.

Every bipolar person I meet tells me I am bipolar and need to be on meds.

Buryontime, my parents think meds are bad too and they tell me to stay away from psychiatric hospitals. My mother said that if I want to live a long time I should stay away from psych hospitals and my dad said he didn't like the way I was when I was on Abilify. Both of them said they noticed that my sense of humor turned off or something when I was on Abilify. My bf didn't like Zyprexa for me. As he watched me raiding the kitchen cupboards, he said "This is no good; you're going to get diabetes."

But my bf says that I need antipsychotics and that it's very important that I take them, no matter what else I am on. He says, "Don't you think you need something besides an antidepressant?" He also said he wanted me on either an antipsychotic or an anticonvulsant. He thinks that Lamictal would be good for me, Abilify would be good for me, and Wellbutrin would do me good. I'm now on the last two. He thinks I should be on Lamictal too. He was on those 3 all at once and I'm so delighted to find that what works for him seems to work for me. We look alike too. I think we may be related.

LOL, Spokane Girl, good point, are doctors people???

No one has ever told me that I should be put on medication. Someone did ask me if I was on any, but I told them no. My parents were against putting me on medication, and personally I don't want any meds myself. However, if you do have something serious like Bi-polar or ADHD, then that might be an acception.

Of course they are. I just meant people who aren't doctors. I didn't want replies in this thread and half of them that said they needed to be on pills were doctors than parents or friends or workers, or relatives, etc.

My mom thinks they would help with my anxiety and I am inclined to agree. I'm so damn jumpy and easily startled. You poke me and I fling whatever I have half way across the room and jump two feet.

I"m pretty sure my constant need to urinate every 15 minutes is due to my anxiety, as my blood and urine has been tested and found both to be normal. Plus it has been going on for years off and on but has gotten a lot worse now. I can't take it much longer. I know when I take this low grade anxiety medicine at night I go from peeing six times a night to three.

When I was a kid, my grandma was against putting me on meds for severe ADHD-like problems and meltdowns... I sort of wish I was on meds back then.

And a few years ago I was told by one of my bosses that I needed meds for depression.

Nowadays I do take meds, and ironically now I'm mostly told that the meds are bad for me and I need off them, but I tried that once and broke down again.

I know, Angnix, EVERY TIME I go off my meds it is a disaster. This has happened about 10 times. I have needed them and taken them for 2.5 years.
