I'm already sick of hearing about it myself. I saw it on the news and said great now we have to hear about this for 1 to 2 weeks. Dad was like people died. IMO PEOPLE DIE EVERYDAY! Plus it's in no relation to me if it was I'd be emotionally invested in what happen but I could care less. (I'm sorry for being selffish but I always have been this way and unless it relates to me I could care less.) :-)

Earthquakes are bad. They should make a law against earthquakes.

People do die every day and that doesn't depend on anyone's opinion! But they don't generally die as a whole cross-section of society, in large numbers, at the same time, and their death is not generally accompanied by massive damage™ to infrastructure, disease, and all the other nasty stuff that happens in the aftermath of a disaster. That's why this is news, and why it's a bad thing beyond the ordinary.

That said, I'm seriously conflicted as to the ethics of charity donation to disaster relief efforts, given that the recipients usually seem to be the sort of people who'd want to burn me at the stake.

I don't understand why it's embarrassing I'm stating my opinion is all. :-) Sorry to offend anyone. :-)

Well then I guess you can expect the same amount of consideration for your suffering.

I think there'll be a charity single in the vein of Band Aid, the full works.

Maybe we can consider asking New Era to introduce fitted hats with Haiti's flag as the front logo... to raise funds as well.

What "take"? An earthquake killed a lot of people and de-housed many more.

A lesson should be learned about the consequences of being ill-prepared for a natural disaster. We folk, in the so-called "advanced" countries could also take a lesson from this.

The lesson to be learned here is turn off the tv, don't read the news. You won't miss out on much, mostly just negative stuff you can't do anything about, designed to get a strong emotional reaction from people.

Another record-breaking natural disaster. Yup, the world's going to you-know where in a handbasket, all right. You know what, I don't care anymore if the world comes to an end. Well actually I do, I wish it would end. I'm sick of coping with it every day. I'm sick of coping with a stupid, horrible society I hate so much it courses through my veins like a burning, toxic venom. :x My brain feels like it's slowly decomposing and my body feels like it is turning into a pile of waste. Why was I born into a world like this? WHY?

I agree on this when I hear about a celebrity dying, I feel like there's no reason for me to care. But the scope of this disaster is much more far-reaching. Their entire country is literally in shambles.

Wow, I don't mean to be rude, but cry me a river. If you think your life is so bad, compare it to the people living in Haiti right now.

Haiti has been hit with revolutions, occupations, hurricanes galore, abject poverty, deforestation, starvation, and now earthquakes.

Sometimes I think God hates Haiti..

No, let's see it this way... God loves Haiti so it gives Haiti opportunities, but He is fair enough to let the Haitians pay a small price before getting the gift! :)
