Are most of your responses short?

When someone brings up an issue with me I say oh ok. Uh ok. Or something simple and short no matter how hard I try my brain IMO can't "process" what they want and I get told "Do you understand what we mean?" Me: I guess kind of. (Then family gives up hope and on with life to have behavior issues that upset them another day. I just don't see there point alot of the time. Is this normal for other Aspies? No matter how hard they try you just "don't get it?"

People get pissed off when I don't get things. Lot of people don't even try and explain things to me. They either ignore me or go "never mind." I often pretend I get things when I don't so they don't get pissed off.

In real life, yes. I tend to say "oh, ok" all the time because I'm either not processing what is being said fast enough, or simply cannot hear what other people are saying because there is too much background noise.

What mathgirl said. My processing is so slow that sometimes I just stare or even say 'what'. That really pisses my sister off.

My responses are usually succinct, though not because I don't understand. I simply do not have a lot of input to offer on most topics (other than my obsessions) and/or do not care about the topic enough to elaborate.

I thought it was quite common knowledge that it takes autistics longer to process what has been said?

I find that some of my responses are on the short side. I just don't know how to elaborate. That's not my strong point. I don't even know what that word means.

Verbally yes, very much so. But I've always had a strong affinity for writing, the same block is not there. I may still not understand the motivations behind what I am responding to, but my response will come quickly, if so desired. I think that if I wasn't so into writing though, it would be the same as it is verbally.

My responses USED to be quite long and rambling.

Now that I know I am Autistic, my responses are much shorter.

I remember during a 'Jessie Stone' movie, Tom Selleck (who plays Chief of Police Jessie Stone) is informed that one word replies (yes and no are his specialty) are considered rude.

I now deliberately use one word responses when I want to communicate that I don't want to have/continue a conversation or with people that I don't like!

Yes. I don't want to talk to people, so I keep my responses shorts so that maybe they will get the hint that I'm annoyed, and they'll go away. Usually it doesn't work.

I naturally use short responses or even one-word responses because that's all that's needed. If a person asks a yes/no question, then all they will get is a yes or a no, unless the asker explicitly indicates that they want more elaboration.

If the question is more complex, then I will usually provide only the information that is asked for. That's all that is necessary after all, right?

People have often gotten mad at me for being "short" with them or being snappy. All I did was answer their question.

^^. Yes, I think I can't help but sound annoyed but I'd rather do short responses than spend ages talking pointlessly. Somehow I prefer typing.
