My handwriting is terribly messy. Is there anyone else here with this problem, and more importantly, is there anyone who has improved it?

Mine is pretty messy but was worse when I was around 10-15. I had to redo a lot of math and english work because of my untidy work.
These days I can write straight on paper without lines, I'm terrible at cursive but my print writing is at least readable.

My handwriting looks like a doctors script. Well, it used to anyway, but enough on that.

It's horrible, but still readable unless I frantically rush through something in a last ditch attempt to finish it before the bell.

My handwriting is absolutely awful. I did learn calligraphy which can allow me to write something presentable when necessary but calligraphy is not handwriting - I know that does not sound right but what I mean is calligraphy is the drawing of letters in sequence one at a time I am only thinking about the shape of the letters I don't even know what words I am spelling let alone whatever was the meaning of the words I am writing.

Word processors are a great invention :)

This is NOT a joke: they sent me home from second grade with a note saying "We give up" There was nothing they could do to improve my handwriting. Yes, one of my professor's said "It is really quite legible when you get used to it" - but then that was the one who smashed up his apartment - and that is not a joke either.

When I take time, I can keep it toned down. But if I am in a hurry, or writing just for myself - look out.

It runs in the family, I think - my son and sister [both of them in their way symptomatic] will not use cursive, and my father [also I think symptomatic] never wrote more than his signature except on a typewriter.

That's caused by dyspraxia, something very common for those on the spectrum.

I have crappy handwriting too, a company have lent me a laptop to use in school because of it.

My handwriting may be crap, but at least my typing is good enough that I can spell whole words, and don't have to resort to txtspk XD

Agreed. When I spend my time on my writing, I can make it so good that it only looks slightly scruffy. However, when rushing, It can be made barely readable or so small but scruffy that some letters appear merged. Overall, I've never been pulled up for Handwriting but, granted, I have spent one term in a Private School where we are taught to handwrite appropriately using a fountain pen...

I used to hate writing and my handwriting was illegible. But I got lots of exercise and now it's legible.

I was banned from handwriting anything by 6th grade... in elementary school, I failed lots of those stupid penmanship tests.

I also had learnt calligraphy, and I developed a solution for my awful handwriting.

Combining my regular handwriting with calligraphy and writing it in italic. It seems like all text is calligraphy, so now everyone loves my handwriting.
I made only a few changes on some letters and write thrie calligraphic versions. 8)

I was an adult when computers reached the general population so my written communication was once made ENTIRELY by hand.

It was quite legible as I recall.

Since learning to type, my handwriting has deteriorated and is now little better than that of a medical Doctor.

About the only thing that I write by hand that is seen by anyone now is my signature and I even seem to have difficulty with that sometimes :)
