I like Hoenn for the variation provided by the unusual amount of water.
Dive is only useable outside of battle in Hoenn, there are fairly large surf routes, and an entire town is floating on the sea. There are also a few fairly large islands.

The volcanic area was a nice touch.
I also thoroughly enjoy treetop towns in videogames. I believe there is one in Hoenn.

Not to sound rude, but why are so many people fond of Johto?

I never saw the light in that region.

Probably myself I like it because; start with the bustling Goldenrod City with the radio tower, plus a train that runs back and forward with Safron city. To the south you have a daycare centre, and beyond that the Ilex forest (home of Celebi). To the north there is the national park and beyond that Ecruteak City the place of Burned Tower and Tin Tower.

Plus the gym leaders Jasmine and Whitney are pretty, and Clair is cool.

I'll admit, I got hooked on Pokémon with Crystal, and plan to retire from Pokémon Training in Johto in Heartgold, so with all the fond memories, my vote is of Johto.

My favorite is Johto, probably because of the sentimental value. It was so special, so cool when I first played it, and I hold such good memories.

I'm gonna say for me it is Hoenn. I liked having so much area to explore on both land and water, and I liked the legendaries (Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza, the Pokemon of land, sea, and sky.) My favorite part of Hoenn was the quest for the Blind Kings (Regirock, Regice, and Registeel), mainly because I was able to figure out the meaning of the dots on the wall (Braille) in the secret caverns without having to rely on a game guide (although I DID use an online Braille alphabet to translate.)

Sinnoh also comes as a close second, mainly because of the mythology behind the legendaries in that area (Dialga the Time god, Palkia the space god, Girantina the shadow god, and the three Lake Spirits.)

Also, Teams Magma and Aqua in Hoenn and Team Galactic in Sinnoh were a lot more believable than the cliched Team Rocket. I especially liked Magma and Aqua because they had a purpose behind their acts, while Galactic and Rocket were more random and chaotic. Magma and Aqua were essentially the eco-terrorists of the Pokeverse, whereas Galactic and Rocket were just rebels without a clue.

Galactic were indeed crazy, but I always assumed Rocket were ultimately after tax free profit. :) I always imagined them fabricating documents and commiting fraud on the side.

It's either Johto or Kanto, I can't really decide between the two, I'm leaning towards Johto, the nostalgic value is one of the main reasons for that choice. I never liked Hoenn much, it just never appealed to me, far too tropical. I do like Sinnoh if only for the climate and geography. Really, it's a competition between Johto and Kanto for me.

I found Galactic to be as you describe, rebels without a cause. A fairly stupid group really. But Rocket were out for profit, they wanted the most pokemon and the most money. They were the most realistic criminal "team" in the Pokemon series if you ask me. They had a goal, they had operations (the casino in Celadon), they even raided corporations which had technology that they wanted.

I just don't see how an organization in which the members with green afros want to destroy the world and use a living creature to make a new world is more believable than an organization which just wants profit and power. Magma and Aqua are better than Galactic though.

Platinum (I don't remember if it was the same in Pearl.) had several Grunts plainly state that they have no clue what they are doing or why. Cyrus just seems confident enough to convince them that it's probably a good idea. :)
Mars and Jupiter were apparently only in the organisation because they had nothing better to do; new character Charon only wanted to use Galactic's resources and Pluto joined because the whole thing just amused him. Pluto didn't even think the plan was good.
So, yeah, it is the moron team.

Team Rocket was definitely the best evil group. They had the whole Mafia vibe going with Giovanni, the Celadon Game Corner, and the focus on money. They didn't own their own buildings like Galactic did, they took over other people's buildings for their HQ's. Not even Giovanni being vanquished stopped them, they came back and kept up the misdeeds. Plus, their uniforms didn't look weird.

Aqua and Magma are next because they at least had a plan. They aren't as evil as Team Rocket, though, because they ended up seeing the error of their ways once they released the legendary of their choice. Their uniforms looked ridiculous, too. They do win the prize for the coolest hideouts, though.

Team Galactic was just a bunch of goons that joined because they thought it was cool; they didn't have a clue what was going on. Kinda hard to be evil if you don't even know you're supposed to be.
