I've read through two collections of his short stories and will probably pick up more when I'm in the mood for more horror stuff
His stories wrap me up in their atmosphere like few other authors can

Lovecraft was definitely an aspie. Check out his Wikipedia biography - there's a great quote from a young HPL on there about writing letters that absolutely screams AS, as well as the extreme Aspie-ness of nearly all his (mostly semi-autobiographical) fictional "heroes"/narrators.

Hell, Lovecraft's prose style was basically my speaking style from the ages of about 8 to 13... 8O

Other people have hypothisized that Lovecraft was Aspie too.
Actually there is a whole school of SF and Fantasy writing where the characcter
seems to be along for the ride on a long spacy trip.
Who wrote the King In Yellow?
Then Lovecraft, esp. Dreamquest of Unknown Kadeth
Olaf Stapledon,Last and First Men
who influenced Arthur C. Clarke, who wrote Childhood's End and 2001.Wasn't there a
fad for late nineteenth/early 20th century mysics to experiment with out of body experiances?
