Hello.

I am new here. I have been diagnosed with schizophrenia, paranoid type. However, I feel I have been misdiagnosed.

I have been researching many mental disorders to try to figure out what is "wrong" with me. It seems aspergers fits.

I have low self-esteem
I can not make friendships
I am horrible in all social situations
I rarely make eye contact
I get worried when in groups of more than myself
I do things that are innapproriate for my age or so the people say
I am not close to anyone, including my family
I spend all my days reading math and physics books (which are closely related)

I can not find much information on adult aspergers online. Can someone shed some light on this. I would finally like the right diagnosis.

Please...help me...

I need to know before I transfer colleges.

Kind regards,
Chris

The key to where you are today is in your past.

The "cure autism" mentality has sadly left adults on the spectrum out of the mix for the most part.

With that in mind, you need to look into your past. Adults tend to develop coping skills making it harder to DX aspergers in adults.

No, you need to look at your child hood and see where you were then to get a better picture if you have AS or have schizophrenia.

What am I looking for? I know for a FACT I do not have schizophrenia. I have been off meds for months and have not had any hallucinations or delusions.

Kind regards,
Chris

Hi! Welcome to Wrongplanet!

I think you will fit in with us very well here. However, I am going to move this topic. I think this topic belongs in the Introduction forum.

I hope you enjoy posting here!

I posted in the members only section because I like my privacy when dealing with such issues. I'm not trying to introduce myself more than I am trying to figure out what the hell is wrong with me.

But, OK...

Kind regards,
Chris

Hey. I just joined a couple of days ago, and read your post. I'm going to college in the fall, and have alot of the Asperger traits (so my therapist says), but don't fit all the criteria. I'd like to know more about the paranoid issues. I've experienced that also. How is college going - what's it been like for you? I'd like to hear from you, as there aren't many people in our age group who are going through this stuff. talk to you soon.paco

Isn't it amazing how we all can relate?

Paco:

What exactly would you like to know about paranoia?

College is going fine. I was just accepted into Stanford. I've studied at three other colleges so far. I'm a professional student. ;)

Basically, I sensed things that were not real, thought the CIA was after me, people reading my thoughts, etc.

Let me stress: I no longer have these symptoms.

Kind regards,
Chris

Hi.

As well as what's been mentioned above, I'd advise seeking out someone experienced in diagnosing AS in adults.

Here is a list that might be helpful.
