What is with people and not keeping a decent standard or personal hygene?

I was behind this stinky man in a shop and I just about gagged. Do people like being cacooned in filth? I think theres some people in class that don't brush their teeth, too, one guys breath smelt like unflushed toilets.

I mean, someone can be a good dude/girl, but I just don't want to go near them because of the smell. Why don't people make themselves clean? Any reasons?

Well personally I have just discovered this amazing substance.........soap I think it's called, and the salesperson said it will revolutionize my social life, so I have hope once again in this bleak life of mine.

I personally find hygine very inconvenient, have to wash over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and ove and over and over and over and over and over and overr and over and over and over and ove and over and over and over and over and over and overr and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and overd and over and over and over and over and over and ove an and over and over and over and over and over and overd over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and overd over and over and over and over and over and over and over. So tedious, i hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it.

I would rather be cacooned in filth than deal with that swirling eternal tedium of despair. But i do wash when friends are coming over or i am going out for a social occasion. And they will never know how much willpower that requires of me.

h_b,

Your experience echoes one I had in a downtown post office and I wish I could answer your Q about some people's personal hygene. Seriously! That guy in front of me stank so much I had to keep at least a dinner table length worth of space between myself and him. I also made a blatant display of pinching my nose both in protest and disgust. Also as a former taxi driver, I can tell you plenty of stinky people stories.

If I had a medical glove handy, I think I'd have put it on, smacked that slob in the back of the head, and told him: "go home, take a shower, scrub every orifice with a steel brush, change your underwear and your clothes, and then come back in the line-up"

Blechhh! :x For reasons I can't understand, some people just don't set their own standards that well.

A swirling never ending eternal vortex of misery! A physical hell! A dimension of absolute inevitable horrible tedium! A dream i once had during a really bad fever! A fate worse than oblivion!

I'm thinking about making a song, and maybe an opera about how much I hate it.

I can't say that I'm clean all of the time, or the cleanest person in the world, but I can say it is gross when people don't brush their teeth at least twice a day. I just can't stand not brushing my teeth.

I'm a very clean person so I can't personally understand why anyone would want to be dirty. Surely it must be uncomfortable? And on what universe would you actually want to smell bad to others?

This sounds like similar situation I was in a couple of years ago. I was stood in a queue in a supermarket and this one guy smelt so bad I swear he smelt of sewage!! !! I wasn't stood directly behind him because there was two other people separating me from him and they were stood a fair distance from him. It was enough to make your eyes water. I think one guy actually approached him and pointed out to him where the soap aisle was for future reference (my dad did this to a stinky woman when I was a tiny girl coincidentally) at which point he left looking very offended. I say good on the guy who actually spoke to him!

I'm a dirtbag but thats only because the bathtub/shower here makes me sick to my stomach just looking at it. It's dirty and keeps getting used as a toilet by my sister and others. I don't have any friends and I never am able to go anywhere so it doesn't matter anyway.

You think too much nomaken. You need more hobbies to get your mind off it.

I used to think that about days and nights just going over and over and over.. but thats only when I sit down and think about it.

Taking care of your personal hygiene may be tedious, but it's better than the alternative of smelling like the most foul body odor! If I knew someone didn't bathe daily, I would hold it against them and probably be less likely to want to hang out with them even if they did bathe before visiting me.

I know some people that smell fine without bathing for a few days, but I can't stand not bathing at least once a day. That, and I have really bad BO.

I don't like shaving. I find it a huge hassle, and unless I have to go to class or work I usually don't do it. I feel the same way about getting a haircut, and will wait until the last possible moment to get it done. Consequently, upon returning from the haircut place, people often don't recognize me.

It seems like most men who ride the bus here make a point not to shower when they go out. The buses are always foul smelling, especially in the summer and I can only hope the smell isn't rubbing off on me. I even had this one dude try to hit on me and his breath was so foul a guy sitting two rows behind me backed up and opened a window. 8O

Hey, just because they can't afford a car doesn't mean they don't have to keep clean. Soap and toothpaste only costs $1.50. It's not going to break their budget.
