Does anyone else hate being slow? I hate it. I hate being stupid and not being able to catch onto things. I hate sitting by myself feeling lost while everyone else seems to know what is going on.

I never knew what was going on at school cos I was always in dreamworld.

join the club. it was no fun growing up big and dumb and slow and clumsy. of being told everyday that i was too stupid to amount to anything. of getting paddled in front of the class for not answering questions correctly [yes, they did that in the bad ol' days of the 60s]. it was no fun being stuck in a room of people who would talk about me as though i wasn't even in there with 'em. total dehumanization, total disenfranchisement. no matter where i turned it was the same $#!+. no hiding from it. nobody else with which to commiserate. phys ed was the worst, never being chosen for sides, and humiliatingly being sent to the office to do make-work to fill-out the hour. passing out towels and doing paperwork. no friends.
so be aware that there are worse things than just being slow. it can come with lots of other baggage as well.

Oh yea at work I'm slow. Everyone else has no issues. Their lives are way better than mine. They can have easy communication amongst other co workers with no issues. I want to hide in a corner and just wither away.

I don't hate being slow; I despise being judged from being slow.

I can relate to not catching onto things until later. I enjoy taking my time. It's a struggle at work when I'm slow to understand something. Luckily nobody makes fun of me with regards to it, but my boss (and ONLY this one boss) judges me, yells at me, and punishes me for it. Luckily, at school, my teachers can help me individually and they are very understanding.

I am not compatible with such quick-paced people as my boss.

yeah, i have always been *slower* than everyone around. that sucks.

i used to have a nickname "Speedy", which was.. well.. ironical...

I'm always the slow one. The slow thinker and the slow mover. It interferes with maintaining competitive employment. I was always one of the bigger, slower, more clumsy people out of most of the people that I know. Maybe it's because I'm a big softy, with a soft heart and a soft brain.

When God gave out brains, I thought he said trains,

and I missed mine

When God gave out looks, I thought he said books,

and I didn't want any

When God gave out noses, I thought he said roses,

and I asked for a red one

When God gave out legs, I thought he said kegs,

and I asked for two fat ones

but you plainly "get" irony, don't you believe that means you aren't so slow at all?

Its not that you're a slow thinker, but a cautious thinker. You like to take your time with the ideas and concepts given to you, and yes it takes time for you to work it out in your brain BUT this does not mean that you are stupid in any way. You just learn differently from other people. You have to think of it in this way. You can't help your own thinking processes and brain chemistry, and so what if others think you're slow. Its their problem, not yours. After years of beating up on myself for things I couldn't really help, I've learned that I just have to not give a damn what others think of me. Sure, it doesn't make me popular, but I was never popular to begin with, at least this way I dont feel so bad about myself. I bet most of the people here, on these boards, are way smarter than any of their co-workers. And if it weren't for the "slow thinkers" we wouldn't have many of the inventions and technological marvels we have today.

I, for one, want to cheer on the "slow thinkers", without them the world would be a different place, and for the worst IMO.

but consider this:

everybody else ALSO-
*has to wipe their tuckas at least once daily, some battle 'roids even.
*grows older and more decrepit by the day, some with utterly no grace.
*has to bathe at least once in a while to wash away their stink.
*has morning breath upon waking.
*has to deal with folk who are smarter than they are, and who let them know it.
*have their own problems which mostly are hidden and/or diverted from public view by pompous displays of superiority. even the "high and the mighty." i am sure you can identify many folk you have seen.

I'm sorry if I'm opening a old thread but yes I hate being slow and clumsy. I'm not fast at anything I do. I feel like I'm stupid and I'm not worth anything.

I can relate, too, and the bolded parts is how I feel about it.

I'm thought of as slow but I think that this better describes me. If only others would see it that way.

I think the words I say most often are "Wait!" and "Oops!" It always seems to take me longer to do normal things, like get dressed or gather my things to leave for work. Everybody stands around waiting for me to finish.

That's pretty cool, enjoyed reading that.
