Just thought of this. I own a few thousand movies on DVD/TV, but I know I've seen heaps more than that. When I was kid, I'd watch about 10 on a weekend. I think for every one that I own, there's probably 3-5 that I dont but have seen. I suspect this puts me around the 10,000 to 15,000 mark.

Anybody else got a figure?

I really wish I knew exactly how many movies I've seen because I've seen a lot. Not nearly as many as you, but compared to anyone I know in person, my number is vast. My flickchart has a little under 600 on it, but I just joined 3 days ago and I know there are quite a few movies that I don't yet have on there. I'll guess it's probably around 1000, more or less.

I really think the true number for even an average 22 year old might be higher than that even.

I think I might have over-estimated my number. I'm thinking it must be in the 5000-10,000 range instead now. I figure from ages 6 to 18, it was about 7 previously unseen films a week - 4000 roughly. And from 18 to 27 about 4 or 5 previousy unseen a week - 2000 roughly.

I think my parents were rather relaxed about what they'd let us watch when we were kids. Dad was into action/war/scifi films and Mum was into comedies/dramas/thrillers so we had a good mix.

I honestly couldn't say. I watch movies all the time although I do have a habit of watching the same movie a few times in a row instead of constantly going for films I haven't seen. When I was young I could easily watch the same film again and again everyday. The main thing I did when I was little was watch movies. Then again I still constantly watch them now. :D

 Perhaps you're right. After writing that last night though and then thinking about it further, I think I underestimated my number because when I worked as a security guard for 9 months, all I did for 12 hour shifts was watch movies, and by my math that adds up to over 1000 right there, although there were also some tv shows and times I read or listened to music (or the rare occasion when I actually had to do something security related  ). But still, I'm thinking I've seen a lot more movies than I originally thought. This is why I wish I knew exactly, because I'm really terrible at guessing and estimation.

As a kid I wasn't a movie fan. I saw my first film at age nine, and I liked them after that, but it wasn't until mid high school that I really started enjoying films, and watching them almost obsessively. At times it's still hard for me to pick a new movie to watch, instead of watching one i've seen and can recite all the lines to. I don't know how many i've seen altogether, but I'd guess somewhere around 5,000. The last two years which, ironically enough I haven't been too big on movies during, I set myself a 'goal', to watch 100 new movies I've never seen before. :D I kept the list in a journal and recorded and rated each one. It was really cool to look back at the end of the year and see all that i've watched!

That's such a great idea. There was a time when I used to review movies after watching them but it's so time consuming.

I'd love to see every film ever made by the time I die (up until that point of course). I know it's not going to happen or is even remotely possible, but I just love movies that much.

I'm going to guess hundreds; when you think of all the 'repeats' you see on the tube, it may be less than you think.
There was a thread here about the '100 best movies', and I'd only see 80-odd...

I think I've seen less than 100 movies in my lifetime. That's why I sometimes enjoy movies that are subpar by other peoples' standards - I haven't seen enough to know any different.

I was just never really that into them before the onset of my recent Johnny Depp obsession.

I think I have seen around 5000-6000 movies, many of them several times. My favorite movie as a kid was Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey. It was about 2 dogs and a cat trying to get home :p

Very hard to estimate but it would be numerous (easily 10000+). As a child I would go through video stores, often getting the specials, like 7 weekly movies for $10. I did this for decades and moved around a bit so I had memberships to maybe 20 different video stores over the years. Now I have movie channels on cable to get my fix :D

Six thousand, seven hundred and fifty two.

Just kidding.

Honestly, I have no idea.
