Hello all

In my continuing series to gather information, I am trying to put together a list of things that tend to stress autistic people out. Now these aren't limited to autistic people only, but are more common for autistic people. For example dealing with unreasonable expectations is a source of stress for anybody, but autistic people tend to deal with it more often because people tend to expect more of us then we can deliver.

So far I have:
Oversensitivity to lights
Oversensitivity to sounds
Oversensitivity to touch
Oversensitivity to smell
Dealing with uncertainty
Dealing with unreasonable expectations
Difficulty with performing tasks
Being bullied by peers

What would you add to the list?

Processing too much verbal information at once.

Mistakenly thought of as being rude due to being unable to communicate as much or as well as people would like.

Limited, or non-existent, ability to multitask (ie, single-minded in tasks, one at a time approach)

Do you mean that the problem stems from just too much information which causes you to forget things, aka problems with short term memory. Or is the problem due to the fact that the information is delivered verbally and you have difficulty processing verbal information quickly enough. Or is it a combination of the two?

For me its a combination of two things. One, I processes verbal information in a very linear fashion; and two, I processes it very literally at first. A lot of people have a habit of speaking vaguely about simple tasks or common events, but in order for my brain to give it enough context for me to interpret it correctly it can't be vague or it will take me longer to processes it. When it comes to verbal instructions, such as a list of things to do I can explain it pretty easily with a visual example:
--1---2---???----4-----5-----6-----ect...------- ill get stuck on 3 because it was too vague and my mental sorting couldn't give it enough context right away, which also caused me to miss 4 5 and part of 6, so now I need to ask the person to re explain 3 and be more specific and detailed and also repeat 4 5 and 6. FRUSTRATINGGGGGGGGGooomg...... (feels like my head is going to explode) and its even worse if the person is in a hurry or has little patience, doesn't like to repeat himself, or simply thinks you weren't paying attention.

I really like this topic and now I'm gathering information of my own.

To add to the topic: Suppressing stims in public.

A combination of the two. And the fact that I forget or get confused is I will remember one or two things and mix them up and end up doing the job wrong.
Also hearing two people bark orders at me at once is instant overload.
