Sorry i put that in general section because i am not sure it s really a romantic and friendship subject.

I read articles that saying that many autistics are a-sexual bc of thier communicating difficulity (Asexual: A person who does not experience sexual attraction.)

I was born as autistics and i was misdxed of having AS but later profs told me that i am HFA bc of my delay in speech so i describe myself AS/HFA

Anyway in all cases i am autistic (whatever the level)..... but i dont feel i am asexual ....in contrast i feel myself attracted to girls ...a lot . :S

What about you? :

Asexuality does seem to be common within Autistics.
I do not like the way it is seen more as a dysfunction than on a par with homo and hetro sexuality in terms of credibility,it's hardly a dysfunction if the person has functioned as an asexual from the beginning.

I am asexual,I have never been interested in romance/relationships,so for me communication wouldn't be an issue with this.

AS and pretty much the complete opposite of being asexual.

I wasn't boy-crazy like other girls when I was a teenager. I had sexual urges but not toward guys in general. I was in my 20s before I started having a preference and even still, I don't have the constant need for a boyfriend like most women my age.

I dunno ....but i think the matter here it s psycological effect ....some autistics become a-sexuals maybe because they completly give up in having a gf/bf

this is my theory but I may be wrong .

That may be true for some autistics, but for me I've just never been interested - I remember my Dad making fun of me and saying that he couldn't see me as a nun when I mentioned that to him . . .
When I was a teenager I thought more about sex, but then my best friend at the time was a little, how shall we say, busy in that area . . .

I don't "do" emotional nor physical intimacy well nor am I comfortable with either. Hence, I'm pretty asexual. I just don't think about sex a lot.

KingdomOfRats, animallover, Lurker_Extraordinaire and Sophist: you are all invited to join in the debate of the HA-SIHHS (Homosexuals, A-Sexuals, Infertiles and Hermaphrodites against Humanity Society).

Weallfalldown, just because other are asexual and all, doesn't mean they are all like you. Give it up. Take your hatred somewhere else, it's doing nothing for this online community other than infusing ignorance and intolerance for even those on the same spectrum you claim to be diagnosed on.

I'm a self-diagnosed Aspie, 24 years old and heterosexual.

In fact, I have a hearty sex drive which is unfortunate because I cannot get a girlfriend.

You might have something in that there. I doubt that autistics and being truly asexual is linked, but I reckon that its just the idea of sex with other people that is off-putting. It is often said that autistics prefer rough contact, and being unable to endure touchy-feely contact yet often being exposed to rough contact could quite likely have enduring psychological effects. It is also said that tactile stimulation is important to the normal sexual development of people. People who have a hard time being touched are hence unlikely to develop normally as far as sexuality is concerned. By-the-by, its also related to excessive self-gratification. Go figure.

For me it's linked, whether it's AS or just myself, but I've always had a low sex-drive. Then again, my hormones have always been f***ed up so it's probably more due to that and less so AS.

I guess it just depends on whether my pituitary abnormality and AS are linked.

The four autistic users who said that they are asexual since childhood are all.....Females.
Why?

as for David1981 and lurcker (males) they are just given up to have a a gf but that doesn't mean they are asexual.

I have a regular sex drive but no real desire to actually have sexual experiences with a true human. I don't know if that would change if I ever got in a close relationship with a girl. But I read once that that is a type of asexuality?
