Is it just me or are people on the spectrum slower at completing tasks than NTs? I know I am. People have told me tons of times that I'm too slow to get things done. I tend to sidetrack and at the same time be a bit of a perfectionist. If I do things at too fast of a pace, I tend to screw up.

I can be slower than others. It may be due to the "detail oriented" approach.

I've been programming since I was 10 years old. I finally took some college courses on it, and as one might imagine, very little was new to me in those classes. Despite all my experience, people usually finished tests long before I did. You might say, "Well, they were sloppy!" I've seen them pull better scores than me. I almost always forgot one minor thing while on the test, despite how much time and effort I put into getting it right.

Although, with practice, I can still be fast at things too. I used to play time challenges on some of my favorite games and beat nearly all of them, where my friends could not.

Overall though, I feel I take more time than most.

i can be slow and reasonably accurate, or i can be a bit faster but very sloppy. not both fast and neat.

I'm usually the last one finished my section, at work, picking garbage from the parking lots. I'm done in plenty of time, but my supervisor wants me finished at the same time, as everybody else, and she let me know, in a very nasty way, two weeks ago.

I take longer than most to do certain things, actually a lot of things. It's because I like to get everything 'just right' and then double check it. Yeah I'm a little obsessive...

Physical jobs might take me a bit longer because of my poor motor skills. But usually with tests I'm eager to get them done quickly. I am a bit of a slow reader though.

I think with me I focus too much on the details which slow me down.

There's that and then my mind wandering off to something else.

Ok I'm really sorry for hijacking this post but I really need to know..I have a 6 year old AS son that is suuuuuuuper slow at everything. I love him to death but there are times in life where you have to hurry in order not to be late for things like appointments, school, swim classes, etc. How do I help him be ready on time? I feel so bad for rushing him because I know he hates it but if I let him have his way, he would do whatever he wants for hours and then decide two hours later he is ready to go. When he realizes he missed whatever he was scheduled for, he cries and feels bad because he missed it. How do I help him?

I think I used to be that way because now I am the person that is always ready 2 hours earlier.
I suppose his interests are getting in the way of him getting ready on time?
Maybe you could test and reward him when he does get ready on time, so that way he knows that's what he's supposed to do? I'm not really a parent I just read about that.
Also, teach him about schedules and things. Let him have a certain time to spend with his special interests but also let him know that when you go out for appointments you must do it at a certain time, otherwise you miss out.
