I'm a thirty-five year old housewife with three children, one of whom was diagnosed with autism when he was about two. I've had struggles socially for many years, and always knew I was different, but it took years of educating myself about autism to help my child for it to finally hit me that I was on the autistic spectrum, too.

Anyway, basically the social anxiety and awkwardness has taken its toll and I have few if any real friends outside of my immediate family. I decided it was time to try and step out of my shell a bit, so here I am. I'm very glad to meet you all. If I come off as terse or abrupt, I apologize. I've spent quite a while being very withdrawn and not wanting to deal with people in any manner at all, even online. That's one reason I'm looking into getting an official diagnosis, so that I can do something about the anxiety, which just keeps getting worse.

So yeah, that's about it, except don't be surprised if I don't always sound like a thirty-something. I certainly don't feel like one!

I know how you feel. It took me 18 years to figure out I have autism. It's a tough thing to accept and as far as having few friends, I feel your pain. Welcome to WrongPlanet!

What does age mean anyway and how should one feel at thirty-something? I sometimes still feel like I'm twenty or twenty-something, sometimes like eleven :D

Enjoy your stay on the Wrong Planet!

Welcome! No worries, we're nice & tolerant. If just posting is an issue, you could check out the forum games - the replies don't take as much effort there :)
