Job interview physical gestures

I have a job interview next week, and while I know what types of questions are to be expected, I am clueless as to what mannerisms to have, regarding eye and hand contact, etc.

If anyone can help me, that would be great.

Try googling job interview techniques. There are a zillion such sites out there.

When I did my first job interview I made sure I made direct eye contact with the interviewer; no eye contact is a sign that you have something to hide and that could be disastrous for any job prospect. As for my hands I made sure that I placed my hands on top of the desk, so that my attention was directed solely at the interviewer.

Eye Contact is probably the biggest one, sadly, if you're anything like me, your body wont physically allow you to make it for more than half a second.

Perhaps try smiling as well, I'm not sure what they want, but happiness might convice them.

I did ok with the eye contact, and I should hear something by the end of the week.

introduce yourself clearly maintain eye contact till pleasentries are over. sit down relaxed still maintaining formality. i.e. dont slouch or sit with your foot on your knee.

most importantly have an answer for everything. dont say "um..............well.............thats tuff"

somethings that might come up that alot of people stumble on. goal questions

where do you see yourself in 5 years
what is a major goal you achomplished in life.

stuff like that

I have researched those questions, and have thought up replies well in advance.

The interview was for a GIS Analyst position in Houston.

Here are some tips:

1) The interviewer needs to know that you're paying attention to them. So, you need to peer deeply in their eyes, and don't break eye contact under any circumstances. Furrow your brow to let them know how serious you are.

2) The interviewer needs to know that you're passionate about the cause, so you should use big sweeping gestures and be as aggressive about it as possible. You wouldn't want to yield your spot to a more aggressive candidate ! Waving fists in the air is a-okay !

3) The interviewer also needs to know that you are a relatable human being who doesn't look down on others. So, feel free to fart, and then make a joke about it. You're just a regular Joe !

Regarding the physical gestures always remember "No Gang Signs!"




It was a joke... Hope that you don´t feel offended by it.

No problem at all, it was very funny. And it has someone from the Simpsons on it.

Make eye contact and smile right when you first meet the interviewers, and shake hands. And when you leave, do the same. That will make a good first and last impression.

As for the middle part, make sure you know your stuff in regards to the position you're actually applying for. That's the most important thing. Bring a resume and make sure you can explain what you've done in the past and what your training is. Dress nicely. Research the company you're applying to and when the interviewers ask if you have any questions for them, maybe you can have some company-specific questions prepared?
