I have three cats myself and I adore all of them. However, I feel a special connection with one of them, something that i haven't managed to establish with the other two (or with most human beings!). i see the other two cats as my pets, i love playing with them and looking after them. yet at the end of the day, i sort of know that they are just my lovely cats - only your best friend when you're feeding them or giving them a tummy tickle.

as with the 3rd cat, i truly feel that there's a bond between us (i know many dogs and their owners have this but not so much with cats?). i feel that she can read my mood or even understand me. i feel the connection through the eyes too! eye contact has never been my strong point so this is very special to me.

i am not a mad cat woman, i don't think that my cat is some kind of super-cat who has super-powers.
i wonder if other aspies can truly connect to their cats? and in what ways?

My cat is a moody little SOB sometimes (like right now, as I watch him glare at me for moving him off of the pillows that he's NOT allowed to sleep on), but he's so affectionate a lot of the time, and he seems to know when I'm upset. Whether he comforts me or not when I'm upset though...that's up in the air :P

My cat is definitely my friend. And we have a closer bond than any other friends I have. We help each other.

I have three cats as well. But I do have one cat, Obsidian who is extremely in tune with me and my emotions. If I become ill or upset, she's right there. I've never had a cat like her before. It does make me curious as to why she is this way with me. I call her "my little familiar". And no, I'm not a Witch, I'm a Druidess.

My little feline buddy is most certainly my friend

My cat Columbus was my best friend. He used to sit on my lap and sleep by my side every night. He would even try and get in the bath with me. When I was upset he would cuddle. Columbus died last year and I miss him terribly. His brother is still alive and keeps me entertained. I also have a dog which I treat like a little boy. He is good company when he is behaving.

I don't exactly see my cat as a friend, but rather like as if she were like my baby. I buy her special gifts(even though most she doesn't use), spoil her and everything.

all our animals are friends as opposed to pets. I spend more time with them than any other living creatures - including humans (son and son's dad.)

I'd consider my cat to be more of a pet than a friend; I still love my cat, but I have a hard time establishing friendships with non-human animals.

My rabbits, Jenifer and Ralph are my friends... well at least I am Ralph's friend, he's not so sure yet (I've only had him a month!). Jenifer, who come April, I have had for 7 years, is my best buddy. She's always helped me through tough times, sitting on my chest and gently licking my tears away when I cry, nuzzling against me when I stop stroking her. I can talk to Jenifer as well, with big ears like those, she's obviously listening! Unlike a human friend, I can tell Jenifer anything because unless something REALLY freaky happens and she learns to speak (can't see that happening. Can you?) she'll just take it in and comfort me. It's actually quite amazing how much rabbits are aware of considering a lot of people think that they are dumb.

I do like cats as well but I live in a residential home NO INDOOR PETS!! ! I think if I was allowed though I would get a labrador (I know, that is a dog not a cat  )

My cats go beyond friends, they are family. My two youngest cats are like my children. I love them dearly but they can also drive me crazy sometimes with their antics! My oldest cat is like a sister. I grew up with her and I don't remember life without her. My heart is currently breaking because according to the vet she doesn't have much time left and I don't know how I'm going to live without her.

My cats are my pets and my friends. They are my pets because I feed them and take care of their needs and they are my friends because at times it's like they understand me more than anyone else does.

I'm sorry to hear that Penny. They become like children to us.

I've always treated animals like friends or family. My dog Maggie, who was recently taken to the pound was my little girl, like a very naughty daughter. But I was the only one that saw through her naughtiness. Those people that couldn't simply gave up on her and treated her like a criminal.
My cat Ari is like my brother. My neighbours must get confused when I see him in the front yard and say 'Oh hey, Ari. How's is going bud?' He's the only cat I just with with and hang with.
My mum and I treat our newest member of the family, Lyra, a tiny kitten-sized cat as a baby. My mum calls her 'baby' though she has her adult teeth. I'm so delicate with her like she is an infant too. She's like a very little sister to me.
I had a cat, that was born when I was two which was like a little (but more mature) sister to me. She ran away when she was 17.
