Define the perfect friend for yourself... How would that person be? If you already have the perfect friend, define that person.

Someone who'll shut up, sit down and speak only when spoken to.

I don't have a perfect friend, but the perfect friend would be:

-Understanding of people who are different and can't help it (Autistic, gay, etc)
-Willing to stand up for a good cause
-Funny
-Blunt
-Not easily offended
-Logical
-Open-minded
-Not trying to conform to the norm
-Not a backstabber
-Not manipulative in a bad way (e.g claiming to have a cure for AIDS and getting money for fake pills and giving false hope)

I'll add more later. Gotta stop screwing around and do my homework :P.

Others I would add to this are:

-loyalty
-honesty, no matter how much it hurts, its always better than telling lies
-genuine - there's nothing I despise more than a person with a false personality as they are one big lie effectively
-a dash of unpredictability, I like this in relationships too. I like excitement
-confidence, as in, 'I want to do such and such so I will do it'
-motivation, someone with a bit of 'get-up-and-go' in them

I've been lucky enough to find a perfect friend: she's intelligent, loyal, supportive, accepts me as I am and not as she would like me to be, and she's also a wonderful person. I know I can trust her no matter what, and that is so difficult to find nowadays...

I could try to describe the perfect friend for me. Although i'm sure i would describe what I want poorly. I am responding to this post mostly to collect my own thoughts, although i sooner will respond to it with a reply to post than a word document no one will ever read so i must have alterior motives. But it is fitting that such a question should be asked, because part of the reason I am seriously considering totally removing myself from society, including the internet(in the expressive sense, i still plan to ask questions), is because I have no perfect friend, and I need one if i am to continue interacting in society.

Almost without exception every time ive interacted with humans it has been frustrating or unfulfilling. There has only been one person i've met who i could talk to and listen to for hours and walk away feeling completely fulfilled and unfrustrated. And he isn't available for me to interact with.

I know it is too much to expect every person I talk to, all of you, to never frustrate me or bore me, but i'd be fine with my imperfect relationships to all of my imperfect friends if only I had the perfect friend who I could talk to afterwards. But i don't have that, and my frustration and emptiness is building and building.

I continue to interact in society hungering for the precious interactions which are fulfilling and arent frustrating. And they do happen, but not at a frequency which makes up for all the bad experiences that accrue. And sooner or later the pain of those bad experiences will convince me to stop trying, and i just wish that would hurry up and happen.

I have friends and I have good friends, very good friends, but there is no perfect friend who i can be my most honest to. Who when i express to them my day, they know exactly what to say to make my expressions feel like they were worth it. Who will say things to me that I always love to hear. A really worthwhile relationship.

This isn't a plea for pity by the way. It is just nifty that you asked a question I could use as an excuse to think about all this. And perhaps to some of you this might be slightly curious.

Lemme see...others:
-Well the first thing that comes to mind is that they'd actually call/IM/email ME so that I wouldn't have to do it all the time...
-Brutally honest but in a kind way
-Extremely funny
-Great advice-giver/wise/people skills
-Similar taste in film/music/etc. (but not quite as critical as me)
-Has the uncanny ability to calm people down easily
-Anti-Bush politics
-Agnostic
-Environmentalist
-Not below intellectual conversations
-Not above silly/random/stupid conversations
-Has connections
-Doesn't pre-judge anyone
-Very weird (and happy that way)--strange habbits, etc.
-Secure
-Video gamer
-Geeky
-Cynical
-Encouraging
-Not super busy

Yes, Jesus is the only perfect person. We are not perfect, but I believe perfect friends for us are those who are brothers and sisters in Christ. All those who God has put in our life as friends are in my view perfect friends. Anyone with whom we have relationships in the Holy Spirit. Regardless of their personal qualities, or any other details about them.

To quote a description of the ideal friend given in french class last year (abiet changed to a complete sentence):

Je voudrais un ami qui est riche, est genereux.

(Before you go all supersexist, this was a guy who said it.)
