Perhaps a month ago I began to have some horrible episodes. (Please forgive the spelling) These episodes were a combination of a panic attack with an anxtie(mispelled). But the worse part was that it lasted for four to five hours. I was freaking out about it to say the least. After talking to my shrink he put me on the drug seroquel. In the end I ended up taking 100mg four times a day. While this has stopped the attacks it has a side effect, weight gain. I have gone from 150lbs to 185lbs, and I'm still gaining. I believe if the weight was distributed evenly I may not feel as I do. However, all the weight has gone to my tummy. It looks as though I'm still pregnate. Within the past couple of days people have commented on it, either by asking why I'm fat or just asking if I am pregant... My mother is hounding me about it, wanting me to ask to be put on a different med. I'm scared to death of having any more of those attacks and so am trying to deal with the weight gain as apposed to asking for my meds to be changed. Yet I am very senstive about how I look, as well as quite depressed over it. I do yoga every morning and try to water walk when ever possible. Yet this doesn't seem to help.... What to do....
Well, when I was 12-13 I was on risperdal & busperone (can't spell, goes by busbar). The risperdal caused weight gain for me as well (I went from 95-135 lbs. on an 1/8 cc of risperdal). Also, this med has a risk of stopping menstruation (I didn't start 'til 2 weeks after I went off it approx.) 100 mg 4 times a day sounds like a lot... I'd talk to your doctor b/c it could affect menstruation & other stuff as well. You'll need to change your diet to slow the weight gain (losing the weight for me was impossible 'til I went off it, went from 135-110 at 14 in a month).

I can understand why this is troubling for you. I had told my doctors in the past that I would not take meds that make me gain weight. They would not prescribe the ones that had the worst reputation for gaining. If you talk with your doc about the startling new symptoms and the weight I am sure they will accommodate you. DO some research and find out which meds are available for your condition that have a low incidence of weight gain. For me, wellbutrin was a good choice for my depression, and it has a very good rep for not causing weight gain. Now I am not suggesting it is what you should take- I am just using it as an example. There are always new drugs coming out, so you must have some other choices!
