I have always noticed that the smell of gasoline, vinyl adhesive, vinyl markers, car exhaust in the winter, and spent gunpowder pricks up my senses making me a little more alert after smelling them. I was always tempted to soak a rag in gasoline so I could put it on my desk when taking tests when I was in school to keep me concentrating on the task at hand.

Unnatural industrial smells then.

I find that the smells of Pine Sol and Rapid Orange perk me up.

I know your topic is about it perking you up, and not just liking it, but many people like those smells, not just people with asperger's. I've heard a lot of people say they like the gasoline smell, windex, pine sol, and other unnatural ones.

Most smells like that make me gag, and they alert me enough to make me steer clear of them.

Yep...we notice certain things, think about it for a while, and probably start to convince ourselves that we could be different in that way. But yes I know that neurotypicals will typically like the smell of gasoline also.
Just keep on searching for those differences...

Yes, but not in a positive way- it triggered many panic attacks in my case I don't get panic attacks as frequently, though I still get uncomfortable and feel sick around the smell of chemicals. I particularly hate the smell of hospitals (as well as the lighting and I especially hate needles).

Many of those smells make me sick.

I have always had trouble staying focused but when I smell a chemical I seem more focused.
