[The following request has not been approved by Alex. I (lau) recommend that no one download ".doc" files from any site they are not confident of.]

Dear Sirs,

During the next few weeks the Department of Psychology of Bar-Ilan University (Israel), is conducting a research concerning Internet applications usage among Asperger and High Functioning Autism population.

The aim of this research is achieving a better understanding of the way the Asperger and HFA population communicates socially through the internet. Furthermore, we believe that the research results will enable us to develop more suitable platforms and applications for this community in the future.

In order to achieve substantial results, we will need your assistance and be thankful if you fill in a short survey concerning your usage of different internet applications.

The survey is anonymous and the data extracted from it is used for statistical analysis only and are not presented individually.

It is of great importance to us that many people of the community answer the survey. Thus, we would be thankful if you could send the survey to other people that will be interested in participating in the research.

The survey is attached with a "word" (.doc) file and contains specific instructions on how to fill the survey and an E-mail address to send it once it's filled.

because we were unable to attach the file to this thread, were adding a shortcut to another thread with the attachment:

aspergerhelp.co.uk/fo[link intentionally broken by lau]rum/thread-418.html

another option available is sending us mail (and recieving the survey) to the following gmail adress named: intseker

Sincerely,
Research Team: Daniel, Li and Amit.

As people said on the other thread, that file is posted on a site that requires a login and password.

Can you please post the file somewhere that we can reach without a login.

If you want people to fill it in, you need to provide easy access.

Please note: anybody contemplating replying to this document: The address provided in the document is a gmail address, not a university address.

Also the document is not hosted on a university website. As far as I can see, there is nothing to tie this survey to the Bar-Ilan University in Israel, except the original poster's say so.

The university which these researchers claim to be associated with has people who work on autism, but as one-A-N quite rightly pointed out as they are using a G-mail account then how can anyone here be sure that these researchers are associated with the university.

I would suggest that the members of the research team post the name of their research supervisor (and the URL of their university web page). That way one or more of us could contact the person in charge of the project. Until the identity of the researchers has been confirmed then I would suggest that fellow members take addtional care.

As it stands right now the researchers could be anyone.

Diagnosed under the DSM5 rules with autism spectrum disorder, under DSM4 psychologist said would have been AS (299.80) but I suspect that I am somewhere between 299.80 and 299.00 (Autism) under DSM4.

In addition to the above quibbles: anyone else happen to notice the "Dear Sirs?"

I'm not a "sir," so until you tell me I'm welcome here, you're getting no input from me. Anyone still living under the "only boys have Asperger's" umbrella clearly hasn't completed a literature review sufficient to begin taking data from a representative population.

Yeah, really, the last time I saw a letter like that, it originated in Nigeria and asked me to provide my bank account number in order to transfer a million dollars in funds from the account of a Mr. Cockle in Australia...

If it's legit, then we need something a little more substantial.

I sent an email to a member of the Bar-Ilan Department of Psychology faculty (couldn't find a departmental email address) and requested confirmation that these guys are who they say they are.

The previous copy of this post was removed, pending Alex approving the request. I have left this copy, but I recommend that no one respond, as there has been no verification that the research is genuine.

I certainly do NOT recommend anyone to download ".doc" files from what may be an insecure site.
