Do you take meds to manage your autism or AS? Do you feel you can function well without them? I'm considering going back on some medication but I really don't want to be back on stimulants and I've had some bad experiences with anti-depressants. Any alternative methods that you all practice?

I'm on Zoloft for anxiety, which could be a product of my Asperger's and the way I respond to social situations... I'm on a very low dose but it's working.

by meds for Autism, what exactly do you mean? I don't think there is a way to treat every aspect in which Autism manifests in an individual. Are you talking more co-morbid conditions like Anxiety, Depression and OCD?

Yup, pretty much all of those symptoms. IDK much about how they treat autism, just wanted to make sure everyone felt included lol. I know there is no standard treatment, I've heard of both AD's and stimulants being used for AS. Just depends on the specific issue. I considered Zoloft awhile ago. I had an awful experience with Effexor, still getting over it l guess.

One med I've been researching is Stablon, which basically accelerates serotonin turnover in the synapse - It enhances serotonin reuptake and also upregulates the production of serotonin.

I'm on Adderall for focus, and Prozac (low dose) for OCD-like symptoms. Seems to balance out well, and I'm definitely more able to get things done, and I focus less on things like knowing that a new building or a removed tree, or other things whose anxiety could disrupt my day. Things like having to get a new coffee maker would bother me a lot without the Prozac, or when they'd get a new anchor person on the morning news, that would wreck a whole week for me, and I'd have to write about it. Not so much of a problem now.
