:D Do you have automated checkout machines in your super market? We have one at the Tops Market I go to. I love this thing it keeps me from having to deal with checkout workers I just scan my stuff put it in the bag and pay the machine.....Ahhhhh paradise! They get 98% of my business even though there are stores in walking distance with better selections of goods.

I don't have social anxiety.

Personally, I hate the automated machines because its actual work, I'd rather just plop my stuff on the conveyor belt and then space out for a few minutes while the items get rung up and bagged for me. I have to watch my self though, as last week I was at wal-mart and spooked one of the customers behind me. Apparently I started making weird face / eye movements when I was lost in thought and this big tattooed biker guy was visibly shaken after observing me. I guess he thought I was going to go crazy and shoot someone or something like that.

We have, but I don't care if I go to machine or human. If human doesn't destroy my things, it's all good

PLEASE SCAN AN ITEM TO BEGIN.

Ok.

PLEASE PUT THE ITEM INTO THE BAG.

I just did. I'm trying to scan the next one.

PLEASE PUT THE ITEM INTO THE BAG.

I've already done this. What's wrong with you?

PLEASE REMOVE THE LAST ITEM FROM THE BAG.

Ok.

PLEASE PUT THE ITEM INTO THE BAG.

Ok.

PLEASE TAKE THE LAST ITEM OUT OF THE BAG.

But you just told me to put it back in.......

PLEASE WAIT FOR AN ASSISTANT.

I thought this was supposed to be quicker.....

(an Assistant comes by, swipes a key against the screen and touches a button).

PLEASE SCAN THE NEXT ITEM OR PRESS END TO PAY.

Ok....

PLEASE PLACE THE ITEM INTO THE BAG.

But I already have.....

PLEASE PLACE THE ITEM INTO THE BAG.

I already have..... for **** sake. Just give me my shopping!! !! !! !! !

PLEASE TAKE THE LAST ITEM OUT OF THE BAG.

ARRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !!

At this point somewhere in my imagination I am pulling out a Desert Eagle and go marching off to find the store manager.

When they work they're lovely. When they malfunction they're horrible because then you have to find someone who works at the store to fix whatever the glitch is which takes time and negates the whole purpose of me using the machine. I use them at stores where I know they're less likely to malfunction and I always have music on, the automated voice is annoying.

We only have them at two stores where I live, and they are kind of a pain to use. I don't mind at all going to a line where a clerk checks you out...they hardly ever say anything and are never chatty. All this said, I choose the DIY check-outs if I only have a few things. I don't use them for a lot of products cause a bunch of people line up behind you and start acting all frustrated

I ALWAYS prefer auto checkouts! I was irate when my local store did away with them! I don't have social anxiety, I just don't like interacting with people. Anything I can do to go through my day with the least interaction possible!

Yes, and I don't like them for different types of reasons.

The only reason I don't like them is, whenever there's someone in line ahead of me it takes, at least, twice as long as a regular check out with a live person working!

I love those things! So convenient and non-stressful.. except when one goes schizo... =.=
But most of the time they work fine for me. Probably because I've worked with a scanner before

Nor do I, and I love automated checkouts. I find them quicker and I don't have to bother to go into social mode in a noisy, stressful environment.

I love using the automatic checkout. I can go at my own pace, and I don't have to bother with lineups, or cashiers. :)

I can't stand them. They stress me out big time. I don't know if it's the Aspie or just old dog. I like them to do all the work so I can stare at the screen looking for double scans or missed discounts. Usually find one ever time. Plus the automated checkouts eliminate jobs which makes me kind of despise them.
