...you got a letter in the post and it said

Dear Sir,

I regret to inform you that due to an administrative error, your recent diagnosis for autism is wrong and actually you fall into the normal category. Sorry for the trouble.
Yours sincerely,

Doctor P.

Would you be :D or  or maybe just a bit

I wasn't diagnosed by a doctor, so this would not be relevant to me.

Why do you care? Seems a bit fishy.

Just wondered because different doctors might use different tests or sets of questions or use different judgement. One doctor might say you have autism, one might say you don't. Who do you believe?

For example if someone said "I am beautiful. I know because someone told me I was." I would say, maybe that is true but ask a few more people's opinions. Because beauty is subjective. Is not autism also subjective (at least mild autism)?

Just thinking out loud. Have many of you gone for a second opinion or were you happy that you had autism that you don't want a second opinion in case they say something different. Just from my experience some of my friends with autism are happy they have it.

Sorry if i'm being offensive to anyone.

I get it. You say something silly, I respond, and you reply back with another unserious post that is quite 'intellectual' in appearance but filled with subtle jabs at an idea you find illogical. Overdone, really.

You assumed that the tests done are some sort of local variant, or a home 'test'. It is not. I believe you can scan the brain of someone with autism and see if they have it. Also, there might be typical signs that can point out if the person has it or not.

As far as I know they don't scan your brain when testing for autism, it is done by a psychologist asking a series of questions.

Your guess is partially right, the autism diagnosis is not given by a diagnostic imaging test. (FYI, it isn't necessarily done by a psychologist.) But, there have been numerous studies finding structural differences in the autistic brain.

Well, actually it doesn't matter whether or not you have the autistic label or not. If your life experience doesn't change by adding or taking away that label, then what difference does that freaking make?

This wouldn't hasppen to me. Virtually every doctor I've been to, including an autism specialist, has told me that I'm on the spectrum.

I get told my doctors and phycologists all the time that I am not autistic becuase I am so "articlulate". BS! So it wouldn't phase me at all. I'd just write a letter back:

Dear as*hole,
You aparently know nothing about me or autism in general. Either start researcing or get your sorry ass the f**k out of the medical comunity.
Yours untruely,
Punky Kat

I'm bad I know.

I would be very upset because I would be back to wondering WTF is wrong with me.

I'd get a second opinion. There are so many symptoms where I can look at them and say 'that's me' that I KNOW I'm an aspie, the diagnosis just confirmed it.
