Opening paragraph.

Quote:
Autism is a condition that exerts a grip on the public imagination like no other. It disturbs something that is core to our being human. In the social world in which we live, the capacity to read situations and respond appropriately is crucial to successful human interaction. People with autism lack this capacity and are confined to a lonely and isolated world as a result.

Some people.

The world is going to get a lot worse, as well.

I am about to propose that all of us that are on the spectrum should just gather together and make our own colony or something, an enclave of sorts... just to prove a point to the damn world.

I think what is disturbing to things core to being human, are the inequitable conditions many of those involved must endure, and the according ways they must live through them, which do not prioritize upon actual needs.

Disturbs what is the core of being human huh?

Oh well I think I shall settle with being a cat or something instead. Then it wouldn't matter wouldn't would it.

So true, and my life might not be quite so difficult if far more so-called NTs could learn to do that!

Preaching to the choir here aren't we?

Wouldn't it be more productive to go post comments to this and similar articles? We all KNOW how stupidly inaccurate flat statements like that are.

It's the NT world that needs its eyes opened!

Just my two cents.

The only thing that makes me lonely and isolated is the attitude of others who isolate and exclude me because I don't use their body language.

I am looking for tolerance and a feeling of inclusion. It would be nice if they actually consulted me a bit more about what I want and what would work well for me.

I don't have a problem with it.

It's impossible for me to form emotional friendships and relations with others in person, and that's pretty much one of the biggest parts of being human (from a genetic, evolutionary and survival perspective). It doesn't matter how much allowances "NTs" would give me, it's just not going to happen.
