I'm wondering if I'm the only person in the world who doesn't know how to play chess. Hell even my friends know how to play and I'm the geeky one of the group. I was wondering if there is anyone else who has never played. I wouldn't mind learning it either.

I don't think I have played an actual game - I remember going over the rules and being way bored and that was that. I know it is supposed to be this awesome game but it is just too slow paced and I like games that involve logic I just don't care for chess. My son however is really excited about chess - I don't know what the attraction is.

I used to always play chess on yahoo! in 00-01. I don't think I really knew how to play... i just used the guided yellow outlines for where you could move. Although, I did manage to get a purple rating, which is 1500-1699.

I'm glad my kids never got into chess or I'd end up having to play it like walk-in-th-rain now has to do. I've played it, I hate it, I like checkers better.

Heaps of people don't know. But it's a great game, you should learn!

Its easier to learn froma person rather than a book or website.

Same. Like having the (heavy) pieces thrown at me beacause I didn't understand it fast enough.
I don't understand checkers either.
When you're alone a lot of the time it's hard to learn these types of games.

I don't play chess. The pieces can be nice to look at, but how to move them is a total mystery to me.

Also, chess has a stigma: its noted players are almost exclusively male, are highly intelligent, and even more highly neurotic. Witness Bobby Fischer: a brilliant chess mind, but one that's seriously addled in the real world. It's people like him who compel some people to play the game while driving others away from it.

Well, the only thing about Wrong Planet 'Hoopdi' Chess - you don't want to try and play it in real time with another apponent, otherwise even if your refreshing the screen religiously you'll still be seeing something that's one move behind and your likely to have some real bad missteps. Also, note that there's *no castling function* so if anyone even shows you that cool trick of swapping your rook with your king or queen in the spaces where your knight and bishop were - this is one of those programs that won't let you do it.

I learned chess before I learned checkers.

I only play Checkers when I'm at Cracker Barrel!

Making a strategy is easier with Checkers. I hate Chess, I've always just bs'ed my way through it. Funny though, I still beat my little brother at it. :P I HATE CHESS!! ! I HATE CHESS!! !

The best I can get is a stalemate with somebody who plays chess in a completely non-strategic random-like fashion. I'm simply not mentally fit for chess. I figured that out years ago.
