If you could have any amendment to the Constitution ratified that you wanted, what would the amendment be? You can make up a completely new proposed amendment or go with one that's been tried before. Here are some examples:

  • Equal Rights Amendment (guaranteeing equality between males and females)
  • Marriage Amendment (defining marriage as between one man and one woman)
  • Rights for same-sex couples
  • Balanced-Budget Amendment (perhaps exempting "emergency expenditures")
  • Direct popular election of the President and Vice President
  • Return to electing senators through the state legislatures
  • Explicitly allow the federal government to provide social welfare (so that conservatives can stop complaining it isn't in the Constitution)
  • Explicitly say the federal government can't provide things like social welfare

Repeal the amendment that established the IRS and the government's right to levy an income tax.

The IRS was created by an act of Congress. The courts have ruled that the government already had the right to levy an income tax; the 16th Amendment just removed some of the restrictions on how it was to be administered.

Then whatever constitutionally has to be done to get rid of income tax...I'd go for that.

Dual citizens may not be employed by the government at the federal level either in an elected capacity or in an appointed capacity.

The 14th amendment guarantees equal protection of the laws, so your first item is already there.

If you make welfare completely legal, the treasury will be depleted in no time flat (actually it already is and we are living in a state of bankruptcy). Inflation will run wild and people will not be able to save. There will be no point in working either hard or smart since income will be taxed away. The economy will go completely to hell (as contrasted with partly to hell) in no time flat. There will be no incentive to save and the rich people will move out of the country.

Is this what you want?

i only want what the commonwealth and much of europe have had for decades. the dystopia you painted doesn't really describe the canada that i wished america was similar to. canada is nowhere near going bankrupt, yet they provide a real social safety net for their citizens, and i would like uncle sam to step up to the plate and do the same for all americans as well. sink or swim is atavistic at best.

The 9th and 10th Amendments are effectively dead letters, disregarded by liberals and conservatives alike (though at least liberals aren't hypocrites on the topic.) Might as well cut them out, they serve absolutely no purpose.

How do you propose that government's activities be financed? Personally, I believe that consumption taxation is a much healthier way to tax an economy that income taxation, but I don't see that happening anytime soon in your country.

1913 was a busy year for the federal government gaining control over money. Federal Reserve Act AND the 16th Amendment passed/ratified in that year.
