Repression (A poem/song I wrote).
OK This is the result of one of my attempts at dabbling with poetry/songwriting. I don't really think it turned out as well as it could have
Repression
When I was just a little child
Just a little boy
The whole of the world was entirely wild
Except for my strange little toy
I used to laugh and I used to cry
I used to play fierce games of terror
And sometimes I would dream I’d died
In some horrible, unknown error
But my dreams were always bullies and jerks
So now I toil away all day
My imagination’s been replaced with a desire to work
I no longer want to play
Now I’m part of the great machine
Never think, never dream
working for a fat man in a limousine
My reward is always fish and cream
All the rewards a cat could ask
Imagination’s just another word for sin
Protect yourself with your protective mask
Dreaming causes all the mess our government’s in
You know what they say about idle hands
They’re just destined to do the work of Hell
It’s what causes school shootings and heavy metal rock bands
Brainstorming is an evil spell
So don’t think, just the work the day away
Trying to please an overbearing master
Refuse to ever have your say
Only listen to your pastor
Only believe what you are told
Don’t listen to the voices in your mind
Creative thinking means you’ve sold your soul
Look to the present: Not forward or behind.
Repression is the way to go
Keep your true feelings all confined
Make it only sunshine, never snow
Subservient and shallow combined
Art is evil
And writing’s evil
Independent thought
is like a weevil
It’s what you’ve fought
Repression is the way to go
Depression you should never show
Just be depressed
Just be repressed
Don’t let it show
