I just wrote a MySpace blog about the ways girls may mask ASD, drawing mostly from my own experience. The blog is here:

Blog-How Girls Diguise ASD

I thought this might be an interesting topic to discuss. If you are a female, what ways did you learn to disguise your social awkwardness?

Also, I've just started a petition to help the DSM-V committee be more sensitive to the presentation of girls with ASD. As it is currently written, many girls will not get the correct diagnosis, and I don't want them to struggle the way I did.

The changes to the DSM criteria will likely negatively affect males as well, but I fear the worst of it will be for females.

My petition is here:

Petition: New DSMV Criteria Unfair to Females

Thanks!!

:)

I'm interested in reading your blog but the link takes me to a page that says "Invalid Friend ID. This user has either cancelled their membership, or their account has been deleted." :?

you have to make your blog viewable to the public in settings.

then you have to access when you're not logged in and use that link
we can't access it currently simply because you're accessing it from a logged in profile and the link reflects that :) .

Guys date any girl who are at least half-pretty. ASD girls have it easy.

So why exactly is it that girls have social reciprocity, while boys don't? I mean, I know a guy with AS and we talk together and it seems that he takes the same amount of time to process what I say and to respond to it as I do. And usually what we say is not directly related to what each of us says. Someone else might listen and think it's disjunctive conversation, i.e. picking up bits and pieces from here and there and adding on to it. True, I have met males with AS who are less reciprocal than us, but it also depends on the type of interests that you have. Since my interests are people-oriented, I tend to process better what people say (and we talk about certain subjects only). If your interests are more object-oriented, there isn't really much to discuss. Someone with these interests would therefore be more likely to be isolated and it would be hard for them to process what other people are saying. And I think boys do tend towards more object-oriented interests, although I'm not saying that all boys are this way and that all girls are otherwise.

Ha! Not true. I was only asked out in Grade 9 by this one guy with whom I then went on a very awkward date and obviously broke up afterwards.

I'd ask out any half-pretty girl.

But, I forgot that girls don't like nice boys but rather, they prefer mean ones.
