When did Geraldine Dawson join up with Autism Speaks?
She's from my neck of the woods--Seattle. She used to be involved with the Autism Center at University of Washington (I think).
Does Autism Speaks have tons of money or something?
Alex, while you were interviewing her did you talk about the need for more autistic adults to be involved with Autism Speaks?
I'm just assuming that you share that opinion.
Added bold to the key part - the answer is a simple, "yes." For a non-profit, they have an astounding depth of resources.
I am very nervous about the relationship this site is developing with them*, because they have spread so much misinformation, but there is also the possibility that things actually are becoming more of a 2 way street, and they are learning and evolving . Slowly, obviously, or we'd see a lot more funding for things our members care about, and a lot less funding for what is really PR, and a lot lower salaries for all their key players. They don't control the membership here and you all are free to continue to be a voice for the things you believe in, and I don't doubt for moment that you all will continue to do so.
* For the record, even though I'm a moderator, I have no more information than the rest of you on what that relationship may be or how it came about.
