Autism and Raynaud's Syndrome

Hi Guys, I was wondering if autism could be connected to a nervous condition known as Raynauds Syndrome. Raynaud's is a nervous disorder in which the body automatically draws heat and sometimes feeling away from parts if the body, without stimuli.

Raynaud's is one of two things that run in my family (the other being autism) I was wondering if anyone else's family had a history of Raynauds and if there could be a connection between the two conditions.

I have both.

A cousin and aunt (mother and daughter) both have Raynaud's.

My nephew and I are the only ones with an ASD.

No I don't have it.

But as a side note, if you do have it, make sure that if you ever find yourself in a hospital or doctor's office where they use a pulse oximeter (oxygen thingy that clips on your finger) on you, make sure you tell them that it wont read correctly because of your raynauds. Otherwise, you may find yourself getting a lot of unnecessary tests as a result.

It seems that I'm only one with Autism and Raynaud's in my family, but I didn't research.

I hate my Raynaud's. Gloves, handwarmers, nitroglyzerine (with side effects included), creams, gels etc. and my skin is still violet, damaged and peeling. Until the spring comes. Auuuu!

Ha, 50/50 exactly! I think alot of the sensory problems concerning autism fit with raynaud's and vice versa/

This is the most significant poll I've seen on here in a while. Its astounding that such a high percentage of aspies have Reynaud's.

I have just seen this. Nearly 13yrs later. Hello! I have reynauds and was diagnosed aspergers and autistim (high functioning).

Another autistic thing I don't have. I'm thinking of being reassessed.

I believe I have it. I have long known I have this type of problem with cold that most people don't have. I never thought to ask a doctor about it. I suppose I should now that I know the condition has a name.

Not in the diagnostic criteria? There's a pile of comorbidities that are not part of the diagnosis. ID is the only comorbid that is mentioned in the DSM. Another winter related condition I have is eczema and it is known to be more common with ASD.

I'm just filing some medical papers and I noticed my daughter was dx with Raynaud's by her Rheumatologist several years ago. I guess I'd forgotten about that because it was news to me. She is HFA and also has autoimmune conditions.

These results are significant enough to think this should be pursued as yet another ASD comorbidity. Woohoo, just what we needed, a new comorbid.
