So, we all know that males get diagnosed with ASD more often than females... But there seem to be a lot of females here. I wonder if this is because it is underdiagnosed in females, and a lot here are self-diagnosed.. Or if there really are more males than females here(it doesn't seem to be 4:1 at all, though).. Or something else. So, answer the poll and comment if you have any thoughts.

Note: I'm talking about your biological sex. I understand that there are a wide variety of gender identities, but what i'm interested in here is the prevalence of ASD in the biological male and female sexes.

Female (biologically and self-identify) and recently diagnosed with Aspergers.

I'm surprised it's mostly females, but I guess the poll is just getting started. I always thought there were more males here, but I think there may be a lot of females that I don't realize are females

I'm sure I've read it's much more prevalent in males. And presumably that would mean diagnosed males.

Female, self-diagnosed: http://www.piepalace.ca/blog/asperger-test-aq-test/

Also identify with most of the traits on "List of Female Asperger Syndrome Traits" (see www.help4aspergers.com).

Females are probably more drawn to vote considering the assumption already that males are more prevalent when ASD's are concerned. Just throwing that out there.

You polled the set of WP members who saw the poll on time and decided to vote. This excludes people who can't be bothered, people who didn't check WP soon enough, people who aren't sure how to vote, people who don't know the difference between suspected and self-diagnosed and so didn't answer...

However, the results are interesting. I wonder why you got them.

i dont think that reason fully explains the huge difference in the results to what we all suspected.

I didnt know (and Im sure this is a case for many others too), that the polls was about the actual male/female ratios.. i could see it was something to do with male and female by the heading of the link but had no idea what. I think that most once they clicked the poll link to see what it was about, would then seeing its up and one only has to tick one box.. take that step and then see the poll results (including theirs up).
.........

Is it possible that more females voted as they just overall like polls more than males do?????? (i dont know what the ratio is of males liking polls to females liking polls.. maybe someone can actually servay people and find out.. if i ever go into the chat i think i wil do that). i myself really like polls.

I really want to know the reason for this so unexpected poll result

I posted on a thread on the women's forum and noticed it seemed quite lively - perhaps a few regulars in there happened to be online around now? I wonder if the balance will change after a day or two if the poll is left up?

I'm female and diagnosed with Asperger's and I just made the statistics even more confusing. Why is it that I don't know a single other autistic woman in real life?

Male - Diagnosed, only recently just started to accept the way I'am and continue on with my life the way it is.
Always wished to be a normal teen, until I joined this site, I stopped feeling that way and started feeling more unique in personality wise.

The people who happened to click this thread on this forum aren't an accurate representation of the entire autistic community. You need a broader test sample.
