I had recently talked to my sister on facebook who is 13 and we are really close. However, our father has basically rejected both of us and has even thrown a bunch of extremely terrible temper tantrums when he does not get his way. Anyway, my sister told me that he has been verbally abusing her and then scape goating at her and yelling at her about things that she has not done. He even one time told her that he wished that was the never born two years ago.

How do I tell my dad that I am going to have to let him go?

The truth is there is no easy way to do this. You cannot force kindness or enlightenment in any other person. The biggest concern is a minor child who could be in danger and needs help to emotionally overcome the damage caused by the abuse. Confronting the issue directly in a time and manner where nobody is intoxicated and confronting the father and the behavior toward your sibling is essential. Professional mediation may be needed though depending on the intensity of the situation or if there are other factors like alcohol or substance abuse. Definitely everyone in the situation could probably benefit from psychological evaluation and assistance to overcome any problems related to their situation.

I'm terribly sorry to read that. Whatever you do, don't get used to it and just take it. I don't know how sensible your father is but I suspect he assumes a position of superiority towards you and your sister, hence getting other people, whom he respects, may be necessary. Don't be ashamed of it, he's the one who should be.
