The current generation of my family have no involvement in the military whatsoever due to my grandparents generation being so heavily involved in the bloody conflicts of world war 2. They came back home with adament that their children would not have anything to do with the war or military.

One of my relations was the highest ranking jew serving in the red army. Reached the rank of Major-General was an artillery specialist fought at Stalingrad.

Had a great aunt who was a jewish partisan fighter (parachuted into occupied poland by British SOE), was captured and sent to Auchwitz Berkanov and survived unknown to my family she lived out the rest of her life in the former yugoslavia didn't know she had survived the war until 2 weeks after she had passed away.

Grandfather was in the RAF, supplied soliders during operation overlord via tranport plane

Great uncle was second in command of the free french commando's has the highest award of Legion du honoure his names up on the arc de truimph

Also have a distant relative who was woman serving in the USAF in the 1970's don't know what she as being refugee's you don't have the privelage of keeping in track with your wider relations

My grandfather was a Vietnam War Veteran who suffered a war injury and is missing a toe. Not really sure what his rank was, because I never really cared about it like the rest of my family. I'm not really much of a Millitary Fan. :?

My father in law is ex-military. As was his father and grand father.

Aside from my cousin that just got back from Afghanistan last month, that's as close as it gets for me.

My father was a captain in the military. His younger brother (who died in a military vehicle accident) and father were in the military, as well.

Is your cousin overseas now? I lived in Asia and US while dad was serving in US Army. It was great times living on the base. I miss it. I also dated someone for 4 years who was in the US Navy.

Not really sure, he never bothers to contact us or visit us when he's in the US. I know he's been to a lot of places like Hawaii, Japan, etc.

My parents are/were both military. My stepdad's retired and my mother's still active duty. My cousin and brother-in-law are both also active duty and have been deployed so many times I've lost count. My mom joined when I was two so I've always been around it. When I was 18 I wasn't very happy about having to be chucked out into the civilian world....with all its weeds and messy sites...hahaha

And as for going back in history, my family's been in the military since the Revolution and fought in almost every U.S. war.
