I feel terrible. My goldfish are suffering because the pH is too low and I'm doing everything I can to raise it but then I accidentally used too much Amquel to dechlorinate the water (I was doing a water change) but it reduces oxygen so I tried to take out some of the water and replace it - ugh! Now they're all stressed out and they had been perfect until today. I messed up. :(

Tomorrow I'll check the pH again but I'm just sad that they're suffering because I screwed up. It's all my fault. I hope they don't die. They're very sweet little fish who get excited and follow me back and forth across the tank all day long.

Please don't laugh at me being upset about goldfish. I love fish and have kept them for years. I know some people think they're silly and just fish but I like them and feel very responsible for them since the suitability of their environment is entirely up to me. I don't want to be the reason some poor creature dies.

Good luck sir. Thats really all I can say.
I'm glad you love your pets.
I once had fish too. Although the fish all died. I now raise 3 Red Eared sliders that I really love.
It's admirable how seriously you take it. I took rearing my turtles a lot more serious than rearing the fish. It seems that it actually is a good outlet, and as a result, I felt that I was able to make a living thing's life better.

I hope your fish survive.

As someone who accidentally killed her beloved beta fish by overfeeding him, I feel your pain.

I hope the little guys are all right.

Goldfish are pretty tough. If you have remedied the oxygen level by adding new water they should do OK. Are they in a tank with aeration, etc., or in a bowl? Do you have elodea or other plants in there? If they don't, I recommend some elodea. They will just eat it up but it's fresh food and while it's there it improves the water quality. I had goldfish in a tank that were originally sold as "feeders" that eventually grew to the length of my finger before I had to adopt out all my fishtanks. I like a goldfish that's shaped like a fish and not like a gargoyle. :?

The ones that bothered me most to lose were the angelfish that I bought at nickel size that grew to the size of a bangle bracelet until they were overfed by a well-meaning small child. They died of the effects of too much food crud in the water.

Wow, thanks for all the encouragement. :)

Yes I have them in an aquarium with an undergravel filter and a power filter and I did add some new water to try to alleviate the oxygen problem. They did at least make it through the night, so maybe they'll be ok.

Thanks again everyone. :)

Im happy to hear the goldfish are ok now.

I had a goldfish once.

I got him as a prize in some sort of contest(cant remenber right mow) and my parents allowed me to keep him thinking it wouldnt last too long.

The goldfish lasted a year(my sister got a cat and the cat broke the crystal bowl the fish was in) and it showed my parents I can take care of another being with a little effort.

Maybe I should get a new fish once I move out, right now the cat is still at home and Im pretty sure I cant trust her around fish.

Aw, thank you all. And hugs to you, too, samtoo. :)

The pH is a little better today but it could stand to be raised a little more. I think it'll take them a few days to be totally normal again. They seem ok right now...no red streaks or anything.

Thanks again everyone. :)
