Which do you like better?

You don't have to actually want to own one of them.... just which do you like better, or which do you relate to more?

Me? I like cats - they're cool.

Dogs (most of them) are way too hyper, loud, aggressive, annoying, scary, dangerous, etc.

Cats are chill. Very nice. Seem more intelligent too.

I ask because there is a book out called "All cats have Asperger's" or something lilke that. I don't know - I thought it rang true.
(There's similar book called "All dogs have ADHD" or something).

What do you think?

I prefer dogs, but have decided overall pets aren't for me. But in terms of your criticisms of dogs, it really depends on the dog. Dogs vary quite a bit in personality, with certain breeds having certain qualities. For example, my family has a yellow lab. He is an awesome dog; sure he gets excited sometimes, but for the most part he is real chill and he would never hurt a fly. Plus, he actually likes humans, and enjoys playing and being with humans, while not being annoying. Cats on the other hand show little affection, and don't play or entertain humans much, other than when humans make online images with them saying funny things. (which of course is great :P) Also, the more intelligent breeds of dogs (retrievers, sheep dogs, and other mid size dogs) tend to actually be more intelligent than cats. I remember seeing some show on some educational channel a few years back where they did a bunch of tests on them, and they concluded that dog's intelligence varies more from breed to breed, while cats average out more. Hence, certain breeds are slightly below cats (mainly toy breeds) and others were actually a good bit smarter. (i.e. sheep dogs, golden and labrador retrievers)

Now, I'm no cat hater, but i'd take a dog over a cat anyday.

^ You don't know cats very well. My cats are extremely affectionate. They touch my face with their paws, though I don't let them entirely because it's unsanitary or I wash my face soon afterward, and they lean against me and put their paw on me as a way to touch not unlike a person would. They come to me when they want something and make little sounds to get my attention and look me directly in the eye. When I respond to their needs, I can tell that they feel heard and understood. You have to spend time with them to really know these things. Dogs are wonderful too but for me they are too energetic and just a lot of other instinctive things that are too much for me to cope with on a sensory level.

My cats are very lucky. They're well cared for, well fed, have a clean home and wonderful environment to live in and they feel very much loved. I just wish I could give that to all the needy animals out there who don't have the same.

That's a prime example of why animals make better companions than other humans. Because they're fracking douchebags and morons to be specific.

These two stereotypes always throw me for a loop. I'm not going to write a long post full of anecdotes of cats I've known and dogs I've owed. Suffice it to say that dogs, when properly socialized and trained, need be none of the above. My dog is none of those things, unless you find love, affection, and a playful nature annoying; I don't. Cats are lazy, not chill. They are horrible little sadists (have you never seen a cat with a mouse or bird, how they torture it endlessly, maiming and mauling it to death?), not nice. And honestly, compared to dogs, they are really stupid. (I have heard all the cat lover's excuses and probably will again, but they don't hold up.)

EDIT: I was typing this out when someone posted about toy breeds being dumber than cats; while I find this hard to believe, many toy breeds are overbred and as a result, often dumb. I bet a toy breed that was well-socialized and from a responisble, reputable breeder (not a puppy mill) is still smarter than your average cat, though!

You don't have an 'equally' option. I have 2 cats and 2 dogs and like all parents I loved all my babies equally.

Horrible little sadists? Last time I checked most cats aren't like that. I have never seen a cat do anything like that to any animal.

Most dogs I've been around are pretty hyper and loud. There are only two dogs I'm around that aren't like that. I prefer cats. My cat is a real sweetie. Very nice and affectionate and comes to me when I'm really upset to cheer me up or calm me down.

This is old, so everyone's probably already seen it, but just in case some haven't:

Excerpts from a Dog’s Diary…

8:00 am - OH BOY! DOG FOOD! MY FAVORITE!

9:30 am - OH BOY! A CAR RIDE! MY FAVORITE!

9:40 am - OH BOY! A WALK! MY FAVORITE!

10:30 am - OH BOY! A CAR RIDE! MY FAVORITE!

11:30 am - OH BOY! DOG FOOD! MY FAVORITE!

12:00 noon - OH BOY! THE KIDS! MY FAVORITE!

1:00 PM - OH BOY! THE YARD! MY FAVORITE!

1:30 PM - ooooooo. bath. bummer.

4:00 PM - OH BOY! THE KIDS! MY FAVORITE!

5:00 PM - OH BOY! DOG FOOD! MY FAVORITE!

5:30 PM - OH BOY! MOM! MY FAVORITE!

Excerpts from a Cat's diary

DAY 752 - My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre
little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh
meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only
thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and
the mild satisfaction I get from ruining the
occasional piece of furniture. Tomorrow I may eat
another house plant.

DAY 761 - Today my attempt to kill my captors by
weaving around their feet while they were walking
almost succeeded, must try this at the top of the
stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these
vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit
on their favorite chair...must try this on their bed.

DAY 765 - Decapitated a mouse and brought them the
headless body, in attempt to make them aware of what I
am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their
hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a
good little cat I was...Hmmm. Not working according to
plan.

DAY 768 - I am finally aware of how sadistic they are.
For no good reason I was chosen for the water torture.
This time however it included a burning foamy chemical
called "shampoo." What sick minds could invent such a
liquid? My only consolation is the piece of thumb
still stuck between my teeth.

DAY 771 - There was some sort of gathering of their
accomplices. I was placed in solitary throughout the
event. However, I could hear the noise. More
importantly I overheard that my confinement was due to
MY power of "allergies." Must learn what this is and
how to use it to my advantage.

DAY 774 - I am convinced the other captives are
flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely
released and seems more than happy to return. He is
obviously a half-wit. The bird on the other hand has
got to be an informant, and speaks with them
regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due
to his current placement in the metal room his safety
is assured. But I can wait; it is only a matter of
time......

I love my cats but they are indeed 'horrible little sadists' and my daughter is constantly freaking out at them bringing live mice into her room to play with.
